When Peggy first approached veteran musician, Jeff Maluleke to be his back-up singer, he thought that she was worth much more than that. He was right. Their first studio attempt, and Peggy''s first professional recording, Uzhonkhumbula, quickly became a hit on several radio stations – in fact it became, one of Kaya FM’s most requested songs, making it to the station’s 2005 collection. Listeners clamoured for an album. Sheer Music joined forces with Jeff, and one of South Africa’s musical gems was born.
The petite beauty soon found herself rising from a little-known choir in Daveyton to some of Africa’s great stages.
The rhythmic musical flavour of Daveyton (the township that produced other stars like Lebo Mathosa, Jeff Maluleke, Lira, and Speedy) compliments Peggy’s unique vocal ability, her charming stage presence and suave dance moves to produce one of South Africa’s top performers.
But Peggy is not just your average singer. Masked in her compelling beauty is a strong woman with a goal, behind her every rendition is a deep story, belying her every note is a strong message. A turbulent past, marked by the loss of her sister, has shaped her into a passionate singer with a strong focus and an almost tangible ability to reach out and touch others vocally with a message of love and hope – sometimes of empathy in times of sadness and despair. She also touches lives outside her music career – as a volunteer at a community centre in Daveyton.
She has since teamed up with Cameroonian-born record executive, Wax aka Nde Ndifonka, to produce her self-titled sophomore album – PEGGY. The album, to be released in October 2007, is a deep look within a strong, beautiful African woman ready to step on the world!
Only a month before the release of the CD, music from the album will be featured on the TV documentary "Soul Trade", by award winning South African producer, Anna-Marie Lombard.
