Details:
Driven by a fire to share their real-life experience of transformation through an in-love relationship with Jesus Christ, Race of Royals formed for the express purpose of making their Savior known to whomever should be caught in their net of feel-good sound. Once caught, fans of Race of Royals get a steady lift from seven distinctly refreshing tracks on their debut release Drivers Found, which sounds something like church in a 70’s Corvette, with no brakes. Southern California made, Race of Royals are soulful and sincere, but can really take off the gloves with unmistakably L.A. grit at times, acquired via the “School of Hard Knocks,” paying dues in the clubs of Hollywood, backyard parties in the East-Los “hood,” and garage days skill-honing sessions during their B.C. (before Christ) days. Since becoming Christians, the founding members had been on a long journey of discovery spanning over a decade, experimenting with an assortment of genres from Latin rock, to Hip-Hop, trying to decide on the correct vehicle for their message, before finally opting against trying to be successful at music, in favor of being productive in the Kingdom of God. Once the Race of Royals founders woke up to the reality that eternity with God in Heaven, or without God in Hell is at stake for those who have yet to decide their fate, they repented (changed directions), and rededicated themselves to serving God by preaching the Gospel, and making disciples with their whole heart. The music then became easy.
Packaged like Japanese cartoon super-heroes, the band avoids some of the pitfalls that ensnare Christians in the music world by limiting unnecessary focus on the band itself rather than its music and message, through a notable absence of member photos and personal information; considered marketing suicide by some, and intriguing by others. Anime depictions of the band as racer characters, represent the far more serious race of saints described by the Apostle Paul, that is pressing in, and forever abandoning the selfish pursuits of the former life to seek the lost with urgency by God’s love and power.
Led by founders, lead vocalist and lead guitarist “Sol” and “Gio” respectively, Race of Royals’ current line-up of four, became legitimate and complete in January of 2008. The group decided to re-release Drivers Found, originally produced as a project by Sol and Gio under the Race of Royals banner and introduced in 2006. Drivers Found includes an appearance by renowned Christian Contempory recording artist Jon Gibson, who contributed significantly to the project as could be expected, playing keyboards on most of the material. Jon has not only been a great influence musically on vocalist Sol, but spiritually as well. At the close of Drivers Found, there is an alter call and prayer by Pastor Raul Ries, recorded during a service at Calvary Chapel Golden Springs. Race of Royals felt led to include an opportunity for listeners to come to God in prayer, in case that they wanted to respond to message beyond the music.
The band is currently working on new material to be released sometime in 2008, but thought it prudent to send forth Drivers Found once more in order to clear a path. Dismayed by what they perceived as a wave of Christian Rock that has mostly lost its “salt” by way of echoing the angry/depressing sounds of contemporary secular rock bands, Race of Royals decided to respond by reintroducing music that better represents their personal experience with the Lord Jesus, and carries the joy and simple truth of their faith. Race of Royals is comprised in part by two new members on bass guitar and drums, to be announced on the new release. The upcoming release, which is yet to be titled, is slated to contain only seven tracks once more; a trade mark of their own independent label, All Around Records. All Around Records believes in the slogan “less is more,” but the number seven also represents completion/perfection in the Bible’s numerological schema. The new material will reflect the natural progression of the Christian walk, including struggles and suffering, but will still transmit the beckoning call of the victory achieved by Jesus on the cross, resident in the seven, powerful tracks that form Drivers Found. Listen, enjoy, receive Jesus, believe in Jesus, trust in Him wholly, be changed, and live now and forever Amen!
