RYCHUS SYN BIO

New York’s Rychus Syn was formed in 1983 by guitarist extraordinaire Drew Maniscalco. Drew’s vision and penchant for power /thrash metal was rivaled by no one. Enter younger brother Greg Maniscalco on drums. With Drew’s killer riff’s and Greg’s arrangements and lyrical expertise, they became the heart and soul of Rychus Syn as the core writing team. They teamed up with bassist Mike Perdue and set out to find a singer. This proved to be a daunting task as they went through a string of vocalists before meeting A.D. Babcock in 1985

This line up would prove to be the longest running and the band hit the Long Island club scene with a vengeance peppering their set with originals while playing mostly covers of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and Ozzy. They soon acquired a loyal fan base and became regulars in all the major New York clubs.

In early 1987, due to creative differences, Mike Perdue decided to leave the band. Enter bassist Jerry Roselli.

At this point in 1987 Drew and Greg began writing the music for a 5 song demo. They hired long time mentor Steve Amend as Producer and hit the recording studio in late 1987 and laid down the tracks for their demo.

In mid 1988, after shopping the demo to the industry, was picked up by Azra/Iron Works Records and released an EP Entitled “License to Kill”. In 1989 the EP achieved modest success on the Indy circuit and began to get regular airplay on local metal radio stations. Rychus Syn then took on a Manager and began playing larger venues opening for the like of Pantera, Rondinelli, TT Quick and Cintron to name a few.

With material being written for the follow up album, creative differences with bassist Jerry Roselli surfaced and decided to leave to form his own band. This led the way for former bassist Mike Perdue to return to Rychus Syn.

For the next year Rychus Syn continued to play shows and write new material. In 1990, due to creative differences, the band decided to part ways.

At this point, Drew and Greg decided to shelve the Rychus Syn material and form a new band. Enter longtime fans and roadies Dan Reid on vocals and Damone on guitar. Dan Reid’s vocal style and power took the creative team of Drew and Greg to a whole new level of intensity and the addition of guitarist Damone fattened the sound with his shredding style. They soon found bassist Jeff Costanza and named the band Dr. Kayne. This band stayed together 2 years until guitarist Damone left for personal reasons. The band decided a short hiatus would be best due to the many conflicts.

This hiatus would last a long 12 years. In early 2006, Greg approached Dan Reid and brother Drew with the idea of reforming Rychus Syn and re-recording the EP and the shelved material into one full length album.

Greg started finding there was still much interest in Rychus Syn with the original vinyl EP and many bootlegs being sold all over the world, including a pirated version of the EP on Racer Records “Hard and Heavy Rarities Volume 11”. After more research they discovered Rychus Syn appears on many heavy metal web sites world-wide and is touted as one of the most sought after works of metal in history. This changed the band’s focus from a pet project to a serious re-emergence back into the metal world.

Dan Reid came up with the idea of asking former guitarist Damone to now play bass for the new Rychus Syn. Damone jumped at the chance to jam with his old pals. This time the band clicked on all cylinders. They re-united with Producer Steve Amend and set about updating the existing material into their masterpiece album titled “Rebirth”.

“Rebirth” is set for release in late 2008 on Photon Records and the band plans to hit the road in support of their new album.
