BIOGRAPHY OF VISHAUN KISTAN

“You know you’ve connected with your listeners when you hear them humming your song, tapping their foot to the beat or singing along to the lyrics. That’s what it’s about isn’t it?”

This new exciting artist’s debut album: ‘Welcome to my world,’ relates to us all as it speaks of life and the things we experience. “Life can be pretty awesome but sometimes it’s just a bloody nightmare and at times all we want is a little understanding or for someone out there to know what we’re going through”

His music has a combination of genres and styles. Certain songs feature the Spanish guitar as well as the Indian Sitar and Tabla. The piano backed ballads take you on a journey to the 80’s, with the guitars reminding you of the 70’s. “I missed most of the 80’s. I grew up listening to the Eagles, Bee Gees, Santana, Bad Company, Simon and Garfunkel, just to name a few. I listened to pretty much whatever my Father listened to. The little 80’s I did listen to was from the girl next door that was about ten years my senior…that didn’t stop me from having a crush on her!”

With regards to his music, Vishaun is very humble. Being the new kid on the block he realizes he has a long way to go, “I started writing as a hobby and it somehow flourished into an album. I’m by no means the greatest singer or songwriter out there. I’m just a guy doing his thing. I figure if I like my songs, then there will be others who may like them and if I can make a buck out of it, then why not? I’d like to keep on writing and singing. Life is such that there are so many interesting things to write about.”

Born in South Africa, in a little town called Ladysmith, Vishaun Kistan has come a long way. Immigrating to Canada in 1996 at the of age fifteen, it took him a few years to find his niche in life. Having graduated from college in 2000 with a Millwright certificate he decided it was time to work towards his future. However; after three unfulfilling years of working as a welder, fabricator, mechanic, painter, telemarketer and janitor, Vishaun realized that this work was not for him and decided to start following his heart.

In 2003, Vishaun began to write his music and it’s been a roller coaster ride since. To his surprise the songs had a strong melodic as well as lyrical structure and with his mother’s support he was encouraged to produce them. With very little vocal confidence but a strong determination he began producing in 2004. Over the next three years he honed in on his vocals and now jokingly admits it was a painful process, but it has all been worth while.

Influenced by bands such as The Eagles, BeeGees, Bad Company, Simon and Garfunkel and artists like Michael Jackson, Sting, Lionel Richie, Phil Collins and Santana, Vishaun has been able to blend a bit of old school with some new school and bound with a touch of spice.

The release of his debut album speaks much of his journey through life and is told through his music. Songs such as, “A Place Called Home,” “A Better Day,” and “Miles Apart” give you a little insight into the world of this artist and his fittingly titled album, “Welcome to my World,” does just as it implies.
