Details:
Blue: Jay Willis Quartet- is a personal blend of improvisational instrumental studio performances drawing influence from Orchestral, R&B, Latin and Jazz.
The result exceeds the confines of the typical Modern Jazz Quartet.

Someone once said that, "Writing about music, is like dancing about architecture" I could not agree more. Please listen to a few examples then read on....

Jay Willis, a Pianist/Composer from Upstate NY. "Upstate New York has a serious art community"...."most likely because we are found somewhere between the snow and New York City".

Jay has worked on several albums as a studio engineer. Tom Petty, The Eurythmics, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, The Talking Heads, X, George Benson, The Pointer Sister''s, Barbara Streisand, Whitney Houston, Manhattan Transfer, U2 and Pink Floyd are among the artists with whom Jay has had the honor of working.

"Blue" is his sophomore solo effort with the backing of Omnitone recording artist Dan Willis on saxophone/woodwinds and longtime rhythm section Rick Fadale on fender bass and Paul Fadale on drums.

Rick and Paul Fadale have gigging together their entire lives. Their playing has insight intuition, focus and energy. They play together as one. Their studio performances here have style and grace and restraint. The group concept of supporting the music collective-comes to the forefront here. Seventeen years of live performance culminates in our second CD together.

I am very proud to present my brother Dan Willis. Dan is an in demand woodwind doubler working in Manhattan. The list of his live performances, studio work and touring is international and extensive. Dan is a schooled player who has studied with Dave Leibman, Bob Mintzer and has toured with Michael Brecker''s Quindectet. In addition Dan has performed recently with Wynton Marsalis'' Jazz at Lincoln Center. If you dig Wayne Shorter you will dig his sound. He is featured here on Tenor & Soprano Saxophones, Bass Clarinet, Zurna and Chinese wood flute. What you will enjoy the most about Dan''s original and personal performances is that he is a complete musician, and can easily move from one head to another. Dan''s use of ethnic instruments expands the sound of the quartet beyond usually found confines. The resultant is a more expansive orchestral pallet.

This music here, is all original. I was surprised, personally, how each piece morphed from inception to fruition. This was an introspective journey where I found myself digging deep, and allowing my muse to freely create new music. There is a real visual component to the sound. As you listen, you will find yourself transported to many different atmospheres. Each time you listen you will discover musical parts not heard in past playings. This is perfect music for loosing yourself in reflection. One aspect that I really enjoy about this disc is that it has great appeal to non-jazz fans as well.

Three additional digital artworks by international artist John Hughson are on the CD cover. These pieces were created completely in the digital domain for "Blue"
