The term "less is more" couldn''t be more apt for describing Every Sunday, the Portland, Maine-based trio who are creating a buzz along the East Coast with their original brand of acoustic blues rock. Using a stripped-down musical approach, the band, featuring Keith Tasker on acoustic and electric guitars, George Gervais on 5 string fretted and fretless bass and Scott Lambert on percussion, build powerful songs about life and love around infectious grooves that turn even the most jaded listeners into toe-tapping, hip-shaking fans.

The members of Every Sunday "rediscovered" each other just a few years ago. Keith, George, and Scott had originally played together more than a decade earlier in a popular Maine cover band. In that group, their rhythmic instincts and desires would often take over, turning such classic rock songs as "Sultans of Swing" or "After Midnight" into extended improvisational workouts. After that band dissolved, Keith, George and Scott pursued their own musical interests separately in various parts of New England for several years.

But it wasn''t until they got together again informally and began to jam that they truly began to get excited about making music again. "Scott was living in Massachusetts, Keith was living in Portland, and I was way up in Bangor," says bassist Gervais. "The only time we could really get together to play was on Sunday, so we vowed to get together every Sunday and just have fun with it. We clicked right away and haven''t stopped yet." Passionate about the influences that first turned them on to music, such as the masterful guitar stylings of Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn, they are equally inspired by the sounds of their contemporaries, such as Edwin McCain, the Freddy Jones Band, and the Dave Matthews Band.

Citing one of popular music''s most famous trios, the Police, as yet another influence, Tasker says that in forming Every Sunday, "we really wanted to keep it natural, simple and tight and have every instrument play an important role in our compositions." The result is an energetic blend of acoustic blues with jazz overtones played with a real rock edge. As each member has honed his craft by playing with various bands (Tasker''s most recent project was an acoustic duo, Hey Mister!, with vocalist Gabrielle Greeley), together their live show is an electrifying experience, one that the band has worked hard to recreate in the studio on their debut CD, Scheme a Dream.

"For us, one of the most enjoyable ways to spend an afternoon is simply to take an idea for a song and jam around with it, sometimes for hours," says drummer Lambert. "Inevitably, one of us will strike a vein of creativity and come up with a great part or a hook, and we take it from there. It''s a real collaboration. I''ve been in bands with four or more people and they couldn''t come close to what we can do. Definitely, for me, three''s the magic number."

While recording Scheme a Dream, the band took advantage of Portland''s abundant musician community, including a few of the area''s finest brass players for that extra sizzle here and there. The result compliments the band''s style and often carries into live performances. Currently enjoying the release of Scheme a Dream, Every Sunday is a not-to-be-missed act.
