Details:
Man In Formaldehyde is the i.d. used by Peter Bradley when in modern composition mode. Also known as Art Giraffefungal (out there art music) and Super Distortion (progressive/regressive pop fun), he usually works alone... and with an autistic attention to detail that puts many months and sometimes years between releases.
An avant garde spirit is ever-present. Even within the confines of these recording personas there is a general policy of pushing, ignoring and delighting in musical boundaries. In short, the 2nd Man In Formaldehyde album may not sound much like the previous. And indeed it doesn''t.
''Ultraviolet Overdrive'' is the follow-up to Man In Formaldehyde''s ''Copper Sulphate Crystals''. A lot has changed. The moving, melodic core and experimental spirit are still there but the production trickery that so defined the first album has been set aside in favor of stripped down, pure instrumental composition.
Points of interest include:
Subtle but intoxicating time-signature-phasing and switching.
Some unexpected instrument combinations such as the harmonium, oboe and jazz vibes on ''Time-lapse Flower 1''
The discordant and key-less ''Time-lapse flower 2'' featuring just piano and the sound of the rain that was pouring down at the time of recording.
The radiating warmth of the organ, acoustic guitar and monophonic synthesizer on ''Time-lapse Flower 3''.
''The Queen of England 1'' with it''s distorted harmonium, bizarre banjo?! and slow medieval stomp.
...and the sweet and musical voice of the Pointy Bird family''s new baby on the last track, Marina Serena 2''
Limited edition of 300 numbered black-both-sides CD-R discs; in hand-made sleeves.
