MP3 The Sons of York - Chicks, Dudes, Bad Attitudes
"Honest, gritty rock n'' roll that will make you wanna dance. The Sons of York combine the innocence of early 60''s pop with tough guitars, aggressive drums and street smart lyrics." - Sandy Jorgenson, Outsider Magazine
Details:
"You guys are The Sons of York right? You guys look like the Hardy Boys except you play rock instead of solve mysteries" exclaimed a tipsy party girl inside a warm apartment, one frozen Winnipeg night.
Not exactly...The Sons of York do feature two brothers who sport a mean side-part, but the resemblance to the 1960’s crime solving duo ends there. The Sons’ capture the charming pop sensibility of The Hollies and early Who, and manage to make it sound as hip as The Strokes. At their live show, hips shake as Winnipeg scenesters rediscover the joy of dancing to rock n’ roll. With a gritty sound and honest lyrics, their overall vibe remains undeniably fun.
Brothers Luke and Jake Kennerd were raised on Classic Rock and Canadian football, both playing at the High School, Junior and University level. Throughout school, music was just a hobby for the Kennerd’s, but when The Strokes, The Vines and The Hives showed up - the boys were hooked. In 2004 The Sons of York joined mentor bands Quinzy, Alverstone and Inward Eye in a booming Winnipeg music scene. After a few line-up changes, Luke and Jake found a solid drummer in Erik Strom. His precise playing and dedication to music was a great find.
The Sons of York made their first trip to the studio in August of 2005 and recorded three songs. If Ya Can''t Get A Girl imediately found radio acceptace and was included on Kick FM’s Homespun (a compilation of the most requested local artists). By 2007 the Son’s cracked main stream radio with airplay on Hot 103, Freq 107 and were selected for Power 97’s Class of 2007 compilation.
With a growing fan base, The Sons of York are set to release their first EP - Chicks, Dudes, Bad Attitudes - in early 2008. In the meantime these boys will continue to convince their generation to dance to live rock and roll - which has been a thing of the past for far too long.
