Ed Hyson began writing music when he was 11 years old. He is a self-taught musician on the drums and hand percussion, guitar, and vocals. He has experience playing and teaching all styles of music ranging from rock, blues, funk, jazz, and hip-hop both professionally and privately. He is a graduate of Chestnut Hill Academy ''05 in Philadelphia and now is majoring in the Music Industry and minoring in Audio Engineering at SUNY College at Oneonta.
In the summer of 2004, brothers Ed and Bob Hyson co-founded the Philadelphia oriented Alternative Rock band "FUGITIVE SPECIES" which made quite a stir in the Philadelphia music community. The band consisted of members Ed Hyson(lead guitar), Bob Hyson(guitar), Schuyler Ferguson(vocals), Kevin Hines(bass), and Jake Vogel(drums). The band found immediate success within a month of writing their first song and went on to record and independently release their debut album, "Plastic Alibis," which was engineered and mixed by Morgan Betz (G25 PRODUCTIONS) in 2004. To the band''s credit, Fugitive Species recorded their two biggest singles (“At Light Speed” and “This World''s Not Simple”) in 2005 with songwriter/producer BRIAN BRICKLIN (A&M Records and Hybrid/Sire Records) and received some very positive feedback from James Walsh (THRESHOLD MUSIC).
Not only is Ed Hyson a singer/songwriter/performer, but he is the Owner/CEO of indie record label “Superior Records” in Philadelphia, PA, a producer for various artists including Ben Freiert, Emilee Burton, and Derek Franc, and drummer for the band “20 Grand” in Oneonta, NY.
