Pleasant Hill, Ohio’s Josh Bledsoe started writing songs at the age of 17 while he was still in high school and released his first album, the humorously but not ironically titled "Life is Pretty Good" in 2004 at the age of 20. The disc was a snapshot of a young singer/songwriter finding a positive voice in a troubling world. It was warmly received and earned him a small but earnest local following.
Josh, now 24, with a few more years of writing and performing under his belt, returns with a more confident, more accomplished second album, "The Days Will Never End." From the delightfully catchy opener, “A Lot Left to Learn,” to the thoughtful, introspective title track that closes the album, "Days" is a lovely, warm, mellow disc that will stay with the listener long after it stops spinning.
Recorded over the last two years whenever Josh had a little free time between his classes and part time job, "The Days Will Never End" is truly a labor of love. He worked again with two talented musicians who were major contributors to his first album: Brett Clark, with a studio in his garage, who recorded and engineered the album, also playing bass guitars and keyboards on some of the songs, and family friend Joseph Helfrich, who came on board to once again add amazing touches to the songs, including backing vocals, guitar, banjo, mandolin, pennywhistle, and even electric bagpipes on the haunting “Dream On.”
Brett Clark’s next door neighbor, Billy Edwards, still in high school at the time of the recording, played drums. Another friend of Brett’s, Shelley Kontra, generously came on to add her beautiful Alison Krauss-like vocals to the fun folk-rocker “Lucky Day.” Josh asked his mother (Sharon Bledsoe on “Short & Sweet”) and two older sisters (Nicole Downing and Noelle Leingang on “In Your Arms”) to contribute backing vocals. In addition, his girlfriend, Justine Kettering, created all the artwork for the CD, including the soon-to-be-famous “pink goat.”
"The Days Will Never End" is a true accomplishment for a young and talented singer/songwriter just coming into his own, and surely a sign of great things to come. Josh’s music has been compared to Jack Johnson, Joshua Radin, Damien Rice, David Gray, and Jackson Browne. He is more than okay with all of those comparisons.
