Unable to escape the art-rock, prog and post-punk inspirations of the past 3 decades, Fey Ray brings a known feeling. The rolling intro of "Reflections on Radicalism in America" and the slashing chords of "Brand New String" are the clues. Vocally, the internal conflict of the title track is a common struggle and universal theme, as is the ever-timely "Fighting My Own War". These personal choices in multi-part harmony are mimicked throughout the album in simple shifts of complex arrangement. I Wanna Be New & Perfect is vast, beautiful and powerful. We find ourselves helplessly along for the ride.
