Here is the back story behind "Clifton at Desmond"...

After touring Japan with legendary R&B/Funk group ConFunkShun, D. E. Chung was inspired to compose this album. This is the culmination of a years worth of inspiration.
Since his last CD "The DC Initiative", he has travel all over the world and met so many great musicians many of whom influenced his music skills as a kid. Some of the greats that he has crossed paths with are Harvey Mason, Nathan East, Alphonse Mouzon, Gladys Knight, Bubba Knight of the Pips, Ron Isley and the Isley Brothers, Charlie Wilson & the Gap band, Morris Day & The Time, India Aire, Midnight Star, The Bar Kays and of course, ConFunkShun to name a few.

In between these legendary musicians, are the great and soon to be legendary musicians that he has chosen to record with him. Musicians including but not limited to, Sahar Miller, voted the best Blues Sax player by the Bay Area Blues Society;
4,5 & 6 string Bassist/Producer Stephen Smith;
Guitarist Paul Hunt;
Vocalist Omega Brooks & Brely, lend their vocal prowess to round out this CD.

The songs:

The title track Clifton at Desmond, represents the intersection where he grew up in Oakland. This is where he learned how to play music and wrote his first song as a young man.

State of the World; introduces us to the amazing vocals of Omega Brooks. This song was inspired by the music of Gil Scott Heron and Brian Jackson. It''s a study of the human spirit and asks the question "What''s the state of the world?"

Shibuya Station is one subway stop on the Metro in Tokyo. Shibuya-ku is a district in Tokyo, where the world famous Tokyo Department Store is located.

Emancipation represents freedom of the mind. It beckons us to break free of the chains that many of us create in our minds that keeps us from reaching our full potential.

Ipanema My Way is dedicated to the home of the samba, Brazil, pure and simple. This is an upbeat ditty with some fine solos.

One is a Million gives us the sultry voice of Brely. It tells a story of the greatness of love.

Shaken Not Stirred is a groovy number design to get you out of your seat, bob your head and shake your rump.

House of the Rising Sun is dedicated to his travels in Japan.

Happy Being Lonely showcases the voice of D.E. Chung. This bluesy song tells a story of a worldly man finding himself in love and inspired.

En Guard in the Yard is dedicated to the drummers and musicians that used to jam in Sproul Plaza at U.C. Berkeley on Sundays. When he was kid, he would hang out at Sproul, also known as, "The Yard". There were always two groups that played drums in the yard. One was a huge collective of people playing and dancing whatever they felt. They were called "The Wrecking Crew". The other group was usually found in some corner upstairs or off to the side. These were the REAL Congueros/Rumberos. Many of them from Cuba and Latin America. Here is where he watched and learned from the masters. You had to earn your way into playing with them. If you could keep the rhythms, you would quickly be switched from player to to spectator. They played and sang Afro-Cuban songs as if they were back home in their native Cuba.

So this is the story of Clifton at Desmond. Presented for your enjoyment.
