"Musings, Thoughts, Etc." is a collection of original compositions from pianist and composer Donald Crawford. The list of local talent from the metro Richmond area on this CD includes Sam Savage (trombone), Tim Turner (tenor sax), Marcus Tenney (flugelhorn), Katrice Johnson (vocalist), Michael Hawkins and Matt Hall (upright bass), and Kelli Strawbridge, Billy Williams Jr., and Lance Koehler (drums.) These trio/sextet sessions were recorded at Lance Koehler''s Minimum Wage Recording Studio in early 2007.
A fixture on the Richmond jazz scene since 2001, Donald has performed, opened, and/or studied with local and international artists such as The Stanley Clarke/George Duke Project (opening for them at Fridays After Sunset), drummer T. Howard Curtis, saxophonists Steve Wilson and James "Saxsmo" Gates, pianists Bob Hallahan and Eric Lyttle, composer/arranger Doug Richards, VCU''s Jazz Orchestra I & II, and others.
Donald is a composer-in-residence with Richmond''s Jazz Composers Alliance and is a 2006 winner of the Richmond Jazz Society''s prestigious Joe Kennedy, Jr. Scholarship. Donald also has acting experience; in June 2007 he starred in a production of Lanie Robertson''s Lady Day At Emerson''s Bar & Grill as Billie Holiday''s accompanist Jimmy Powers.
Donald is currently studying music in Richmond and continues to perform, compose, and record with his various projects. Stay tuned....
