Biography
Midwest Hype, a band from a small town in Indiana, have already made their own mark on music through their combination of funk, reggae, and hip-hop. Many of their peers refer to them as "the next big thing," for obvious reasons. Each band member''s unique focus and skills come together to form one of the most promising young bands in a long time.

The Hype''s main strength, lies in their energetic live shows. They produce a sound that provokes thought and causes you to throw up your hands and dance at the same time. As a result, they play across genres, giving all music fans something to enjoy. Their live sound is rehearsed enough to be professional while retaining the freewheeling sense of improvisation that makes live music so enjoyable. It is almost impossible not to have fun when they are on stage.

Lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Matt Gillon, Wayne, lends a voice that can be smooth and melodic or scratchy and soulful, as well as powerful rhyming skills that defy his laid-back, easy-going persona. His trademark acoustic wa-wa rhythm guitar is a staple of Midwest Hype''s sound, providing an approach not often seen in bands of this style. Lead guitarist George-Matthew Prellwitz obviously cut his teeth on the reggae punk of Bradley Nowell (check the solo in "Smoke Ridin''"), but unlike most of his contemporaries George-Matthew has managed to draw from this influence and form a style that is all his own. George-Matthew also takes the lead vocal on some tracks (Red Light Dub and Hard as Smoke), displaying a passionate voice few would expect. Any funk band will tell you that the most important component of their sound is the rhythm section, and Midwest Hype is no exception. Bassist/vocalist Chris Bendix, "Bendo," uses his classically trained style to great effect, whether it be on the upright bass or the electric bass guitar. His lines are hypnotic and above all funky, laying the groundwork for the rest of the band to play off. He also grabs the vocals in Goin to Mexico which adds even more diversity to the bands style. Drummer Max Kepler does not just play Latin or hip-hop grooves; he blends his influences together to create a skillful and unique style. He is the band''s tireless engine, as well as the acting manager. Max is directly responsible for scheduling practices, shows, and recording sessions.

In the summer of ''06, the Midwest Hype locked in their horn section; allowing both Ben Morrissey (Sax) and Kevin Krizmanich (Keyboard/Trumpet) to bring the funk the whole funk, and nothing but the funk with their already veteran (part-time) member Nate Miller (Lead Trumpet). With these new additions, the Hype has broken boundries and climbed to all new levels of Freshness.
