Born and raised in Fort Worth, Dave Millsap has devoted his life to playing, and teaching, the blues. The journey has taken him from Cowtown stages with local legends like Robert Ealey and Ray Sharpe to swapping licks with one of his six-string heroes, Houston''s Albert Collins, to show after show (including the first edition of Farm Aid in 1985) with Delbert McClinton.
That''s Millsap''s lead guitar on Live in Austin, the McClinton CD that earned a 1989 Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album. Millsap has also taught several promising young guitarists as Dru Webber and organized the Fort Worth Guitar Army, which also included Robin Syler and Rollo Smith.
A Millsap show is a little slice of Texas roadhouse heaven: One minute he''s burning through a blues classic, the next he''s romping through a funky take on an old Little Feat song, and the next he''s offering up one of his growing number of originals. Millsap has released two solo CDs, 2002''s Nothing But Troubles - which featured Sharpe on a cover of his massive 1959 hit "Linda Lu" - and 2005''s Feeling Lucky; the latter is all Millsap, 13 original songs that further enhance his status as one of this town''s finest bluesmen.
