miot spent the earliest of his formative years at a military base where his dad worked on top secret scientist stuff. trying to make sense of the mysterious and faintly disturbing has been a theme ever since.
as a musician outside of any major music mecca, making a living has required some sacrifices and some creative means to work in the industry. edmonton’s grant mcewan college provided some workable ideas in performance, studio work and recording. but running a studio came with a high price – finishing the first cd always took a backseat to clients. the songs on “release” tell some of the journeys taken and experiences lived since the disc was first started.
musical influences have been shaped by his work as a studio engineer, producer and session musician. clients have included dark gothic rock, heavy metal, gospel, r&b, folk and country artists. running a studio is not for those of narrow mind or musical idealism. like many small studios, in addition to engineering duties, miot is often asked for musical contributions – which can be a challenge depending on the genre, but is always a chance to explore new musical realms.
miot''s musical chops were cut in many many many many local bands (often at the same time), including the dream revolution (aka the forgotten), innermost, dual, lee spoken, becky & the kingdom of budgies and most recently f&m. he was privileged to work with vancouver’s perry and the poor boys, including a stint at oregon’s tomfest.
miot is working on material for his sophomore disc, playing wherever and whenever he can. the mysterious is still unknown, and the disturbing proves a better influence than first imagined, soothing even.
