In only a year, Somastate has experienced a quick rise to becoming one of the best local acts in Calgary. With their heavy guitar-driven sound, massive drums and catchy choruses, Somastate delivers a passionate product that both entertains and inspires.
With the release of their first EP entitled “Reversals”, Somastate will be promoting their single,
“Wrapped Around a Bullet” to radio in early 2008. Having owned the room at both “Supernova Band on the Run” and making it into the top three bands in Calgary’s “Band vs Band 2”, it is not surprising that they were also selected from among thousands of others to perform 2007’s Vans Warped Tour in Calgary. In addition to playing Junofest and the main stage at Alberta’s Own Independent Music Festival, they have also shared the stage with bands such as Throwdown, My American Heart, State of Shock, Secret and Whisper and Canadian stalwarts 54-40.
Whether it is the ethereal guitar playing reminiscent of the Deftones or the memorable choruses found in A Perfect Circle, it’s not hard to see that the music extends past typical rock boundaries. Appealing to those on either side of the spectrum, Somastate couples a fresh perspective with a unique and unforgettable sound.
