A former professional singer who toured with acts like Reba McEntire and Wynonna Judd and showed up on major television shows like Letterman and The Tonight Show, Suzy lived up to the status quo of the road, spending rough years away from God. When she was finally confronted with the power of the Holy Spirit, she was forever changed, ruined, in a way, never contented to stay quiet about God''s goodness. And she''s been loud about God all over the world: from Brazil and North America to Russia and Germany and places in between.
Suzy''s sound has constantly been evolving, thanks in large part to her band: James Duke, Andy Kurzweg, Al Sergel, Molly Williams, and Paulette Wooten. In many ways, the songs on Shining sprang from the community that was created on the road and the many varied worship experiences. Guitarist and Co-Producer James Duke remarked: "Most of these songs have pieces of the world in them. They should. They have been played all over the world. I can hear ten thousand German feet jumping up and down when I hear Dance. I can hear a sea of Brazilian worshippers singing along when we play Falling Into Your Passion. Russia is singing along when Suzy sings Burn With You. These songs were born in America, but they grew up in the nations as road tested songs of faith and devotion."
Collectively, Shining draws on a wide variety of influences to make a surprisingly cohesive sound, exceedingly rare in the era of modern worship. From U2 and Coldplay to electronic music, Suzy''s latest album covers a wide range of ground while staying true to the singular vision of the band. And it rocks. Shining has big guitars and treated piano that beg the listener to turn the album up, way up.
At the end of the day though, Suzy''s main desires are to see the church worship God with freedom and abandon, and to encourage the next generation of radical worshippers to live lives of uncompromising integrity. Shining is definitely a good, loud start.
Suzy currently resides in North Carolina with her husband Kamran. In her spare time she likes to give herself pedicures, make journals, and sing jazz.
