Wellington band Thousand Suns features the vocal charms and soft guitar touches of Maya Haettenschwiller, the percussive backbone & light vocal lilt of Emmanuelle Svartz and the songwriting & guitar of Warren ‘Woz’ King. Their debut album Fascination is chock full of layered acoustic music that slips through pop, folk, rock and world genres with ease.
Fascination was fearlessly recorded and mixed by ex-old school punk rocker Lorenzo ‘Dickies’/’Fear’ Bühne & Warren King and produced by Lorenzo at KpodAudio in Wellington, New Zealand. The album was gently mastered by Mark Wheaton at Catasonic Studios in Los Angeles. The gorgeous cd art package – a homage to New Zealand, the feel of summers past and the warmth of nature – was designed by Lillian Hou.
The album includes the singles ‘Burning Orange’ and ‘Broken’, the upbeat world-flavoured ‘Something Beautiful Exists’ and the minimalist ballads ‘No Rumours’ and ‘The Bullrush’ – the latter folk-styled tune, a moving tribute to Woz’s father.
Listening to it you can picture the surf break on the sand, you can feel the spray. Energetic and angular, occasionally compassionate and intimate. Always moody.
