MP3 FleshDevils - ROCK: 90's Rock

Alternative lifestyle rock. Three piece power trio performing songs from life lived on the very fringe.....

11 MP3 Songs
ROCK: 90''s Rock, ROCK: Modern Rock

Details:
The FleshDevils spark was lit in 1997 in Los Angeles at a parole hearing when the gods served up Jose Alves and Dino Archon before the same judge. Each noticed the other scribbling lyrics and by the time judgement was passed - JoJO Flesh and Deano DeVille had been born and ''KISS THE FEAR" the song that was to become the bands anthem to inner belief, had been written.

In a flurry of creative rage against the iniquitous growing prejudice against those dispossesed of conformity by those in its thraw the dyanamically dysfunctional duo wrote fifteen songs in the space of a week. Songs of rage, of anger and love.

Eventually these songs found their way to London Producer Andrew Brel who inveigled legendary drummer Charlie Morgan to change his name to Spider, turn his back on a highly lucrative gig touring with Elton John, and lend his thunderous style to complete the Devils sound. The last piece of the power rock trio was in place.

The boys were offered the opportunity to record in London, but a fear of flying almost saw the opportunity pass them by. Only the timely and expensive intervention of their respective therapists brought about the conviction to travel - newly translated into a duty of care to articulate the inner child''s journey.....

And so in July of that year the boys arrived in Surrey, in the sleepy village of Ripley, (home of Eric Clapton) where in one blistering week of hard but melodic rock fifteen tequila fuelled tracks were recorded.

The album was released in 1997 and a series of gigs in LA followed. Despite a wild reaction the their live set, the bands granite edged ''no compromise'' stance, and in particular hard core front man Deano DeVille thinly disguised vitriolic outpourings presented as poetic angst alienated mainstream distributors.

His insistance in offending anyone describing the Devils music in positive terms made the prospects for release beyond the fringe of the mainstream unlikely. Despite intense therapy Deano was unable to reconcile material success and the ongoing credibility of the artist. And somwhere in this complicated blend of inner personas, the need to destroy all that was good in the name of brilliance became the Devils mantra.

Growing dependence on their mutual therapists eventually brought matters to a head - early in 1998, just 9 Months after their star had risen so brightly when a disagreement in a Malibu bar over the choice of tequila for a Margherita spiralled into a life threatening conflict. It was here that JoJo Flesh lost his famously woven side of head plait. It was here that it became clear that the bands work was done.

Frustrated by the bands voracious appetite for self destruction their producer gave them an ultimatum. Start talking to each other - or the option on the 2nd and 3rd albums will be put on hold.

And so it came to be that this classic moment in trans continental multi cultural power Rock ended up as a single web site exclusive offer. And there it lay, quietly selling a few hundred copies a year to the word of mouth public intent on exploring the legend of the FleshDevils.

Now, for the first time the album is widely available in its ''directors cut entirity'' thanks to advances in digital distribution. I knew that it would come. Now Kiss the Fear!
