Charles M, or Manzson as he’s known, has been on the underground North Carolina Hip Hop scene for several years now. The Bronx born native favored battle rap but soon realized there’s no money in that. Growing up as a youth on 174th St, in the Bronx was crazy” he says, but prepared him for the loopholes life can sometimes throw. After a series of break-ins, misfortunes, bad associations too say the least, his immediate family of sister/mother decided to move down south to North Carolina, to his mothers’ place of origin, but those streets and the love for Hip-Hop was still in him. “I was born with it, but that street s#@t is what earned me my first charge” he says!
Often violating probation/parole, back and forth from NY to NC, he settled in the city long enough to get the “put down” in a music video, “Fat Pockets” by Showbiz & AG. Once on the set of the video shoot, he found himself exchanging versus with other names such as, the late Big L, Sadat X, Lord Finesse, AG “ a lot of the OG`s & digging in the crates dudes”, he says. While on the set of the Fat Pockets video “I spit some bars for this dude named Smitty” he says, and Smitty told him go to Jazzy J Studios on Allerton Ave, in the Bronx and sit in on a “Fat Joe” studio session. “That was my first time being in an official studio ever” he says. I couldn’t get enough of it, every time I heard of a studio being open I wanted to be there, even if I wasn’t recording I wanted to be there, even if someone else was recording I wanted to be there”. “Jazzy showed me a lot, for the few sessions I was there”, then it was off to Boston where some kids on, E. Dedham kept promising to put him down with the Mighty RSO, who later became Made Men. No more near misses, the best is yet to come.
