Still Waters is not a mainstream album made by the rules of the music industry, but a very unique and personal piece of work from an inventive and intelligent artist. An honest and independent record, made with a lot of passion and little means. Straight from the heart, for sensitive ears.

72 Soul is a Brussels singer/MC/producer/DJ, who co-wrote the hitsingle Mr Doorman for Belgian band Arsenal in 2004, and released the CD Transcending Project, with American producer Akello Uchenna (https://www.tradebit.com) in 2006. He remained active with his band Troubled Soulz, the collective Mobassik and the funkband Starline 69. He also collaborated on some 12” releases with Antwerp funkateer K’Bonus. As a DJ, 72 Soul played at SOS Café, Café Capital, Café au Lait, Chocolat, Macao Café Ibiza, Mr Ego Brussels, Onda Sonora parties… His style: hip hop, soul, funk, old skool & broken beats.

“Still Waters”, the first solo-album by 72 Soul, is the result of one year of musical creativity, and a compilation of collaborations and encounters with artists from Brussels, America and beyond. The concept is simple: 72 Soul sings and raps about life and love, backed up musically by friends and soul mates met in Brussels or through the worldwide net. With a dash of humour, the album relates the adventures of his alter ego, a frozen European poser with a sometimes cynic view on the current world affairs and human relations. Adding to the atmosphere are interludes, extracted from the French movie classic Pierrot Le Fou (Jean-Luc Godard).

Most songs were recorded and mixed in 72 Soul’s homestudio, and mastered by Gert Van Rillaer (Zambezihippos). The music was produced by 72 Soul and guest producers such as Sibo Kanobana, Simon Binara, Duff Paddy (Brussels), Akello Uchenna (USA), DJ Standfast (Toronto/Budapest) and Sensagius Remidii (USA). A real discovery is female singer Roxy Plas, who can be heard on the song “Broken Hearts Club”. Further stand-out tracks, showcasing 72 Soul’s deep lyrics and easy delivery, are “Good Things” and the English-French “Hide to be alone”.

Still Waters is released on i-Tunes through The Wab/Annorax.

Every Saturday 72 Soul presents ''Back to Niceness'', a ''good music only'' radioshow on FM Brussel, with DJ Kwak (Strictly Niceness).
