MP3 Four - Overdue

Power-pop-punk...kinda like Cheap Trick with the energy of modern punk

16 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Punk, POP: Power Pop

Details:
Louisville based original band four, a mixture of punk/pop/and power rock, released their second record titled "overdue" January 31 at Jillians on Barret Avenue in Louisville, KY.
After forming in 2000, four''s first record "every night" was released in November of 2001, selling over 1500 copies locally. The band toured on the record in the winter of 2001 and the summer of 2002 throughout the East Coast gaining fans and momentum along the way. The record''s title track was included in the local top 5 best of 2001 on Louisville radio station 105.1 WLRS, it also received airplay in Bloomington, Cincinnati, Lexington, Charleston, WV, Knoxville, TN, and Charlotte, NC.
After their second tour was complete the group, with new drummer Ian Bottomley, began work on what would become "overdue." Recorded in intervals by lead singer/songwriter Chris Meece at their home, the record showcases the growth of a band that is tired of the so-called Louisville "scene."
"With Ian, we were able to come up with music that we never would have attempted previously. He made me recall that the reason I began playing guitar was because of Green Day and other So-Cal punk bands of the mid-90''s. The result, is a mixture of the power-pop of Cheap Trick with the energy of modern punk." says Meece.
Tracks like "You''re Amazing," "Wendy," and "Far Away," are perfect examples of the transition that the band made in writing the record. "You''re Amazing" was released to twenty-six radio stations on February 18, 2004. The song, about the fickleness of summer love, is the perfect introduction into the band.
"Those tracks were right in the middle of my writing process. They bridge the gap in the record between the earlier written songs ("Oak St," "Came," etc.) and the later ones like "You Never." Meece stated.
The album includes tracks about single motherhood "Civic Girl," society "Hand-Me-Down-Town," "Oak St," "Be This Way," losing a friend to a girl "Happy," but for the most part the songs are about (you guessed it) relationships with girls.
"I write what I know, what I can be honest about. Anything else would be bankrupt. Things happen and I sing about them. The abstract world has a lot to offer, but writing about concrete things and how they happened is how I write the best. You might not always relate but at least there is emotion in it."
The band plans to tour extensively after releasing the record. A mini-tour is already in the works with Magnetic Flux and Anti-Griffith (Memphis based punk band) in March, followed by a twelve-date stint with Island recording artist Everlast in May and June.
"We just want to be on the road and play our songs. That''s why we do this, because if it was for money, then we made a mistake somewhere. So many bands in Louisville think that they are so important, when in reality, the scene here has degenerated into a cover band commune. It''s easy to be the big fish in a small pond, we just want to make music that doesn''t involve blaming my father for not loving me enough. I want to make music forever, not be on the cover of the LEO and start doing crack with hookers because I think I''m a rockstar." states Meece.
The band also hopes that this record will be a springboard to bigger things. They have already spoken to several indie-labels about picking the record up if it does well in Louisville.
"This record will make us. We want to continue moving forward and we need a label to do that, not a big one, just someone to get us out there." said bassist Vinny Flick.
"We are very tired of rotting away in Louisville. We want to get out there and show people that it''s okay to listen to music that isn''t on the radio twenty times an hour. That other people are making music worthy of their ears." states drummer Ian Bottomley.
