Jam-Band

9 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Jam-band, JAZZ: World Fusion

Details:
Foxy Moon Baby began in the summer of 2002 when Tom Campbell, Dennis Robert Lippe''s (DRL) manager and friend, introduced Dennis to drummer Casey O''Connor. Dennis had been composing music through out his college career at Five Towns College where he majored in performance and education. Casey was looking for an artist to record and perform with. At that time, Casey had worked with many musicians including the legendary Khalis Bayonne of Cool and the Gang. The two got together and began recording Dennis'' material in a garage studio in Ringoes, New Jersey. Many musicians were featured on the album including Dennis'' Jazz Ensemble professor and Trumpeter Greg Bobulinski, a good friend and band mate of the incomparable Clark Terry.
Once the album was completed, Dennis and Casey began preparations to create a touring band. Foxy Moon Baby''s (FMB) first performance was at Phish''s IT festival in Maine. The five piece band, including two guitars, trumpet, bass and drums played two sets each night of the festival using a generator for power and promoted the new band with flyers, stickers and banners. Within a year, the Foxy Moon Baby''s website had over 300,000 hits and the band had sold over five hundred copies of their first recording. As the albums continued to sell at each show, FMB recorded their live performances and began releasing the recordings as Foxy Moon Booties; the official bootlegs of Foxy Moon Baby.
Once the band began touring the sound of the music evolved. FMB added a three-piece horn section, trumpet, sax and trombone and the legendary Chuggy Carter on percussion. The sound of Foxy Moon Baby continued to grow and evolve. Dennis had then completed his master''s degree in composition and arranging from Five Towns College. During his studies, Dennis began composing material for the next album. Foxy Moon Baby continued to grow and began playing more venues throughout the northeast including Bethlehem''s Musicfest and The Doylestown Music and Art Festival.
Tom Campbell, the bands manager and sound engineer, was in the process of scouting out new venues and promotional vehicles to take the band to the next level. At this time a major line up change was taking place. Drummer John Rolland and bassist Glen Palermo replaced drummer Casey O''Connor and bassist Steve Johnson. In addition, saxophonist Meilana Gillard and trumpeter Justin Davis then replaced the horn section. A new instrumental addition came to the band when keyboardist Tim Hayes joined the group.
All performances by Foxy Moon Baby were completely instrumental. Not until the new band was established in the summer of 2005 did the band experiment with vocal material. Dennis had written over thirty original songs for his last project 23 Band, which existed between 1996 and 2001. He decided it was time to bring back the vocals and take the bands performances to new heights. The band featured vocals at the Sarah Street Grill in August, 2005 for the first time. Guitarists Dennis Lippe and Chris Lippe performed acoustic versions of songs by Nick Drake, Iron and Wine, Jack Johnson, and Phish. They also sang two songs from FMB''s first album, Table for One and River song with added vocals.
The bands composer, Dennis Robert Lippe, has been writing music for over ten years. He grew up listening to his parent''s records which included The Beatles, Chicago, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, and The Greatful Dead, just to name a few. In the eighties Dennis became interested in newer forms of rock and progressive music such as Genesis, Frank Zappa and Mahavishnu Orchestra. Throughout the nineties Dennis studied jazz guitar with Joe Monk, Peter Rogine and Tony Romano at Five Towns College. He became very interested in the Jazz music of Wes Montgomery, Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Later in his studies, Dennis listened to more fusion and world music that combined Jazz with other genres of music such as Pat Methany and Bela Fleck. The most recent band that has inspired the music of FMB is Phish. "I''m inspired by their music because of the way it takes the listeners on a journey," says Dennis. He adds, "I love music that takes the best of the past and continues the progression to discover what hasn''t been done".
Foxy Moon Baby''s most recent line up consists of Dennis Robert Lippe (DRL) on lead and rhythm guitar, Chris Lippe on lead and rhythm guitar, John Rolland on drums, Chuggy Carter on percussion, Glen Palermo on bass, Justin Davis on trumpet, Meilana Gillard on sax, and Tim Hayes on keyboards. The band is continuing to grow throughout the northeast and mid-Atlantic, reaching new music fans every week and performing at new venues that continue to support original music.
