Born on 26th April 1964 in a music loving family of Varanasi, Devashish received his initial trained under the tutelage of Pt. Pashupati Nath Mishra, a stalwart vocalist of Banaras Gharana, Later he underwent intensive and rigorous training with the erudite exponent vocalist Pt. Mukund V. Kalvint, who in turn assimilated his enormous repertoire from Padmabhushan Pt. S.N. Ratanjanker of Agra Gharana and from Pt. Rajabhaiya Puchwale, a torchbearer of Gwalior Gharana. In fact, Devashish has interwoven the silken threads of these three leading Gharanas of Hindustani vocal music to evolve a fascinating and harmonious style of his own.
Devashish won some coveted prizes at a very tender age. Gifted with an extremely melodious and sonorous voice, which supremely glides across three octaves with mellifluous ease, Devashish holds the audience in admiration. Some rave reviews are:
