Details:
"The Faint Lights" are an electro-acoustic band from The Netherlands, consisting of three very talented individuals whose ideas and sense of teamwork resulted in the creation of their debut CD album "Under the same sun, moon and stars". Included in this album are five beautifully written songs that are atmospheric in nature while invoking thoughts and emotions from the listener. "Red Shoes" ~ What a wonderful way to open an album. The lead guitar has a soothing tremolo effect and the acoustic guitar accompaniment provides a well rounded tempo. The vocals possess a heavenly quality, instilling a feeling of yearning within the listener. This song invites us to partake in a reminiscent journey through the eyes and minds of the artists. "Should I" ~ This song begins with a mesmerizing, haunting guitar arpeggio followed by very tasteful, sustained notes. The vocal harmonies are beautiful, creating a melodic layer above the main vocals. The mood of the song shifts at the bridge where the vocals become quite passionate and longing, punctuated by energetic guitar riffs. As the bridge ends, we are again welcomed by the song''s gentle reprise of the opening arpeggios. "Since You Left" ~ This song stands out because of the rhythmic tempo provided by the percussion, and sets the stage for a moving passion play of vocals and intricate guitar work. As well, the percussion combined with the vocals puts the listener into a trance-like state. The lyrics incorporate a play by play rendition of a past romantic love affair. Midway into the track, the song takes on a haunting surreal quality, punctuated by the mix of guitars and vocals. "Stop This Heart From Beating" ~ This song introduces a cello which provides a warm and soothing texture that permeates the surrounding chord structures. The vocals shine in this song, starting off rather gently then gradually taking on a more emphatic tone. The lyrics depict images that bring to mind another time and place. "Foolish Little Dream" ~ I personally like the use of the mandolin on this track because of its distinct tonal qualities. The melody of this song gives the listener a sense of closure and promotes the calm, wistful feelings experienced throughout the album. Highly recommended and original in their sound, "The Faint Lights" excel in a melancholic yet ethereal style of songwriting that soothes, as well as nourishes the lovelorn soul.
