Omens is the first album in three years from the legendary singer/songwriter, Jack Hardy. Omens finds Jack at the top of his form, placing poetry against a Celtic-flavored musical backdrop that prompted Rolling Stone to write, "Jack Hardy is so at home in the role of the Celtic bard that it''s hard to believe he''s home-grown."
Omens features a full band including David Anthony (drums), Tom Duvall (electric guitar), Mike Laureanno (bass), and Kate Macleod (fiddle). Recorded at The Theater Recording Studio in N.Y.C. over two nights, Omens has the urgency, intimacy, and magic that can only be obtained through "live" recording.
As a special bonus track, Omens features (as a "zero" track), an interview with Jack Hardy conducted by his long-time friend SUZANNE VEGA. Anyone who has wondered about Jack''s songwriting process and where he gets his inspiration will find many clues in this candid sonic portrait. Listen to a 5 minute RealAudio clip from this interview. A full transcript of this interview is also available for the Press.
About the Songs
The fourteen songs range from the uptempo Celtic "Sile na gCioch" where a tinker finds a dress on the side of the road and gives it to a young lass, to the majestic "West of Dingle" where a woman faces a choice between her lover and her fiddle; from the biting barrage of juxtaposed media images of "I Ought to Know" to the romantic ballad, "Only One Sky", and back to the uptempo humorous Clancy Brother-ish "The Boney Bailiff". This album takes you on quite a musical voyage with some of Jack''s best poetic imagery, but it is the sweeping beautiful melodies that carry these songs directly into your memory.
