MP3 Jan Korinek And Groove - Groovin For Little V

Fresh hammond organ driven funk-soul-jazz album.

12 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Soul-Jazz, JAZZ: Jazz-Funk

Details:
"...Korinek is a tremendous technician, & delivers his improvisations with a powerful musical intellect. Plus, his quick fingered & blazing contrapuntal approach to organ is almost effortless. He''s a sensitive & reponsive player with great stamina............Maybe not one the best known, but potentially one of the best to emerge..."

Liner Notes from the CD:

I am not a patient listener. When I hit "Play" on a new CD, my finger is never far from the "Forward" button. If a song doesn''t grab me right away, I move to the next one. So, by my own private metric, any CD that I play straight through without skipping forward gets at least two, maybe three stars out of five. When I hit the "Back" button to hear a track again, I know I''m onto something. If I hit it again, and then again, I''m hooked. When it took me three days to get through ”Groovin'' for Little V”, the new album of the Prague-based band called "Groove", I knew I was in blazing five-star territory. [First tune to get the "Back" treatment: "Funky Griff." Took me half an evening to get past that one!]
This collection of 12 outstanding songs -- just over half are originals -- is a tour through the funky side of acid jazz, a genre that fuses jazz with all the other great genres through the quivers and throbs of the mighty Hammond Organ. There''s swing ("The Hustler"), soul ("Fool For You"), gospel ("Gospel Feeling"),and blues, ("Trouble In Mind"); and of course most of the tunes are infused with a phenomenal funk rhythm.
When guitarist Jiří Hokeš joined organist/composer Jan Kořínek to form the core of The Groove, the pulse of the European music scene went up. You''ll know why when you hear Kořínek, backed by fantastic drumming of Martin Kopřiva and Martin Novák and an awesome horn section, commanding the full range of Hammond aural effects. His mix of drawbar settings, Leslie speaker speed changes (including full-stop), percussion selection, and expression pedal control will remind you of organ geniuses like Jimmy Smith, Groove Holmes, and Jimmy McGriff. And Hokeš'' awesome guitar work on this album merges the best features of Grant Green, Melvin Sparks or George Freeman , but with a sensibility and sound that''s all his own. His solos will make your jaw drop.
There is a rare purity and clarity to every performance on this CD. So insert, hit "Play" and groove with "The Groove." I''ll bet you can''t listen straight through without hitting that "Back" button!
