J-Ride was born in Fort Worth, TX and has lived in different cites in Texas his entire life. He grew up in Teague,TX and lived there until he graduated from Teague High School in 2004. After transferring three times from university to university he finally landed at Baylor University in Waco,TX in 2006. J-Ride quotes, “I love it here and I don’t want to be anywhere else.” J-Ride is now a senior at Baylor and plans to graduate this year. In 2005, while at Dallas Baptist University, J-Ride met Brandon Duncan AKA Injen who lived across the hall from him in Lange hall on campus at DBU. J-Ride quotes, “Brandon put on an instrumental for me after I told him I could rap, and then I spit something I had written when I was still in high school and he ‘flipped.’ With a surprised look on his face he got excited while saying ‘Man you are hot! You can spit fire.’” At that point J-Ride knew what he wanted to do with his life and that was rap. In 2006, after a project failed to ever be completed with Injen while in Dallas, J-Ride was strongly urged by Tha Big Hoss, A local artist in Waco, to save money and do a solo album. In the summer of 2007 he began recording the “My Passion EP." J-Ride is also working on another project with Injen in a group named “Solid State Brigade (SSB)” which includes other artists from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. J-Ride quotes, “I have not yet scratched the surface of my capabilities. The ‘My Passion EP’ is just the beginning. I guarantee my next album will shock you. I still have a lot to say and many different ideas on how to say it.” He later states, “God has blessed me with this talent and I plan to max out my talent so it will never go to waste. God doesn’t need me to do anything for Him; however he has blessed me with a talent so how can I not use it for my Lord and savior Jesus Christ who suffered for me?” J-Ride has performed in different churches and venues in Dallas, Waco and Austin among other surrounding areas and plans to do many more shows with the release of the “My Passion EP.”
