10 MP3 Songs
SPIRITUAL: Contemporary Christian, POP: Pop/Rock

Details:
Being the son of a worship pastor/singer set Mike Haight on the path to singing and leading worship himself.

“I did my first solo on stage at age 5,” he said. “I didn’t know it would lead to a career choice [who does at the age of 5?], but I always had a passion for music.”

Now, 30 years later, Mike, who is a worship leader at First Baptist Church of Orlando, Fla., has put that passion on display in another solo effort—his first CD, simply titled “Further.” The 10-track disc of original songs ranges in style from soft ballads to energetic pop-rock.

“Further” was produced by Robert White Johnson, who has worked with many Christian and mainstream artists including superstar diva Celine Dion and legendary southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd. Backing musicians, which are some of the finest in the recording industry, include drummers Dan Needham (who has played with Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith and Rebecca St. James) and Brian Fullen (Shania Twain, Peter Frampton, Vince Gill), bassist Mark Hill (Keith Urban), guitarist Dave Cleveland (Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith) and keyboardist Jason Webb (Bebe Winans, Bob Carlisle, Gaither Vocal Band).

So, just what exactly can listeners expect from “Further?”

“The collection of songs is pretty eclectic,” Mike said. “All in all, it’s a pretty good mix of styles, which is very indicative of my tastes.”

The title track, Further, is an upbeat song expressing a desire to “go further and deeper in relationship with Christ.” This song’s energy sets the tone for the rest of the project.

I Need You More, speaks of the Mike’s total dependence upon God. “You can place your trust in a lot of things but, ultimately, the Father is the only who will never let you down.”

Then, there are songs like More Beautiful and Only You Know which are very intimate and beautiful ballads. Find a Way to Shine incorporates a bit of funk into the album and encourages the listener to “shine” in any circumstance.

The inspirational and organic sounding Every Mountain Will Be Laid Low is based on Isaiah, chapter 45. “It reminds us that God is all-powerful,” Mike said. “There is no obstacle that is too great for Him. God is able to level any mountain we face in our lives and, in so doing, reveal His glory to us and to the world.”

A powerful message is found in the song Love Colors the Way which urges one to “reach out, no matter where you are.” It is written with a “rock-waltz feel” and stands out as one of the more unique songs on the album. More important, though, is the message it conveys which communicates the “heart of our savior.” “Jesus showed love to everyone, regardless of who they were or the state in which he found them,” Mike said. “Scripture says that people will know we are [God’s] disciples by the love that we have for one another. Furthermore, when he was asked, Jesus said that the love we have for our neighbor should be second only to the love we have for God.”

Still other songs, like Fill My Heart is an up-tempo prayer to be more like Christ, while Only One Left Standin’ is a song about holding firm to one’s convictions. The final cut on the album is, perhaps, the “most edgy” simply saying “don’t hold back.”

“Life is short! Don’t waste a moment. Instead, get out there and do the things God has called you to. Chase the dreams He has planted within you and watch as God blesses in ways you’ve never imagined.”
