Details:
The Peacemakers are a collection of Hip Hop artist from Nashville Tennessee. We say that they are a group of conscious rappers, but actually The Peacemakers are the trail blazers of the next era in hip hop music. This record was commissioned by the community of Nashville, for communities across the whole nation. ‘Let’s End the Violence, Enough is Enough Volume I, is the very first installment of issue based hip hop (rap if you prefer).
The Peacemakers are Paul Sweeney (P Sweeney), Lonnie Greenlee (Executive Producer) Daryll Hawkins (“Daryll Hawk”), Leslie Davis (“LO”) and Micah Parkerson (“Mic Wheed”). Formally three solo artist. Drawn to the notion that the will of the people are changing and what the community wants to hear is just good music. The call was made by a well respected member of the community and community activist, Lonnie Greenlee (Executive Producer). Mr. Greenlee wanted to create a hip hop album that would start to inspire, educate and praise young black boys and girls again. Instead of the same ole rap he craved for a new spin on the words we delivered to our children and hip hop lover alike. So he asked several local hip hop recording artist to participate in what he has dubbed, ‘Let’s End the Violence Enough is Enough Become a Peacemaker Campaign”. And creating (from scratch) an underground issued based rap album was the project. The call was made but only answered by the young men who now make up The Peacemakers (“rap group”).
The Peacemakers, however, are everyone in the community. Not just our community but your community as well. A Peacemaker is only a person (white, black, red, man, woman, child) who believes in peace, believes in equality, and believes in a simple Pledge: ‘I pledge not to kill, I pledge not to steal, I pledge not rob, I Pledge not to destroy, I pledge to PROTECT and SERVE my community.’ This CD was birth out of the idea that, “…violence is learned in many ways and examples in a person’s life, if we can start a dialog through one avenue maybe the incidence of violence that had come through other avenues maybe decreased. We gotta start somewhere…” Lonnie G.
Mic Wheed (AKA) M.Y.S.T.A. R.H.Y.M.E. A.N.I.M.A.L. a veteran in the Nashville hip hop scene. A regular on mixtape of noted southern DJs (DJ lil les tha mixtape slanga, Wyza Record’s ‘dead rabbitz’ mixtape, Nucleus Records’ goin’ hard n tha lab) this animated performer is known in the hip hop underground as a lyrist and a master of the stage performance. Born on Chicago’s Southside, leaving the windy city at the age of twelve, landing in the music city (Antioch to be exact) has prepared this dynamic wordsmith for this very moment in the hip hop industry. “What we are doing here is nothing new. However, it’s necessary and it’s time for a change.” Micah explains about the movement that the group hopes to spark. “Truly concerned people from the community ask us for music that spoke right to the troubled and semi-tough guys/girls in the community to reach them with what they know, love and respect.” Mic Wheed is the animated, life force of this project. Look forward to hearing more from M.Y.S.T.A.R.H.Y.M.E. A.N.I.M.A.L. on future solo projects and mixtapes all over the southeast.
P Sweeney “the producer” this young lad is 17 years old and already an unbelievable beat creator. 75% of the tracks were donated to the cause. This young guy actually helped to spark the project. P Sweeney, a native of Memphis Tennessee, has been infatuated with music since a small child. Hip hop is making them young nowadays. And they are coming out smoking. This beatmaster has produced several Memphis based artist and is an up and coming producer in west Tennessee. P has several producer credits on the next Peacemaker Album: ‘Build or Destroy?
Daryll Hawk, Daryll Hawk, Daryll Hawk, this young East Nashville rapper is voice of this particular project. This solo artist joined the project after about a month in and things were going rather slow in the writing department. “…I’d been going through some things myself. And had made some bad choices, not that long ago as a matter of fact, and I thought I had something to say…trying to heal and help…” Daryll Hawk speaks on his reasoning for making the pledge and joining the Campaign. This hip hop rhymer has 1 solo project (and 1 more in the can) and several underground mixtapes around the south under his belt Daryll Hawk is a Star on the rise, a Galaxy Star
LO (AKA L.E.S.L.I.E.) has always been on the fringe of the scene in Nashville. LO has a late start in the rap game because of (how he would put it) “poor choices” in his youth. LO has served time in the Tennessee prison system and is dead set on not going back. “If I can write something that makes a young kid whose gotten his/her hands on a pistol think about the consequences of that type of action then I’ve done what we set out to do.” He explains about what motivated him to join the Let’s End the Violence Campaign. Leslie describes himself as a writer. He says, “…if you really want to get across a message in what you say, you’ve got to write. Often times when a person is free styling he can’t really rhyme with substance…” Featured on several mixtapes in the city and the south LO has made a reputation as a wordsmith in his own rite.
