Simon C.F. Yu’s 1st album “Beginning…” is a CD that gives you a new taste on “Jazz”.
Graduated at Berklee College of Music -Fall 2007, Simon has been one of the most active performer/composer at the school. Performed at places such as;

Fretted,Fretless,Microtonal Guitarist/Composer/Arranger Simon Yu was born in Hong Kong, 1987. He started his first classical piano lesson at 4 and he started to play guitar at 12. After he won the best guitarist award in a High School Band Competition when he was 14, he decided to be a professional musician. At 17, he came to U.S. and study music in Berklee College of Music. And he graduated in Dec 2007 majoring Performance and also Contemporary Writing and Production.
By the influences of his traditional Chinese music musician family, he has been using some of the Chinese inflections in his playing and also in his composition too. Also, he plays and compose Micro-tonal music by mixing Chinese/Indian/Turkish micro-tonal systems with Western modern groove music. He is one of the performers of American Festival of Microtonal music on 2007, performing with his teacher David Fiuczynski’s "Micro Jam".
He also performed in the Hong Kong Dragonboat Festival in New York in 2007 summer, leading his quartet and performed his original tunes. During the summer 2007, he lead his other group Hip-Jazz project to perform in the Berklee Performance Center. Featuring 5 of his original Contemporary Groove Jazz compositions.
In Berklee College of Music, He studied with David Fiuczynski, Tim Miller, Mick Goodrick , Joe Lovano, George Garzone, Alain Mallet, David Gilmore, Rick Peckham, Dave Santoro, Ed Tomassi, Hal Crook, Steve Rochinski...etc. At school, he has a chance to work/perform with a lot of best students around the college by playing recitals in both recital halls and concerts in the Berklee Performance Center. In Dec 2006, he took his fusion band to a tour in LA/HongKong/Osaka performing all his original compositions and he also doing production projects for his father’s company Wavemotion LTD. HK.
He has been working on various styles of music; Contemporary Jazz, Be-Bop, Free Jazz, Funk, Drum&Bass, R&B, Experimental...etc and tried to combine some of those components to create his own style. He also compose/arrange/produce for variety styles; Pop, World, Big Band, Orchestra, Jingles...etc
