Details:
One of the finer characteristics of this grand game we call hip-hop music is it’s instinctual lean towards self-preservation and it’s innate ability to rescue itself from meandering into obsolescence. It seems that no matter how saturated and clogged the airwaves may be, at any given time, there’s always an individual, group, or movement that’s brewing under the surface; taking over the streets and shaking the game up. In the year 2004, amid a sea of pseudo-studio gangsters, wannabe Mack’s and Montana’s, and hapless and heartless party rappers, the In Ya Ear camp restores some much needed order to the game with the stellar debut “ The EP XL”, from underground heavyweights Crhyme Fam.

Coming up on the hardscrabble pavements of the “Infamous” Queensbridge Housing Projects, Crhyme Fam- Lord Black, Kashdro, and K. dot- never let their talent rich environment deter or intimidate them in their quest to become the next relevant rap movement out of their legendary neighborhood. Rather, they allowed the ever present influences of the pioneers of hip-hop that hail from this tiny hamlet sitting on the East River in Northeast Queens, legends and innovators like Nas, Marley Marl, Mc Shan, and Mobb Deep, as their fuel and standard on their mission to ascend from the belly of the projects to legitimately having a shot at commercial successs. As Kashdro States, “We grew up in the most famous projects in the world, a place that turns out the best rappers and some of the illest street shit you’ll ever see in your life. We had no choice but come right. We had to rep the QB flag correctly.”

Their beginnings, circa 1998, were lean and humble, as they had to learn the precarious and tricky balance needed to survive the street life, life as artists, and reality itself. Needless to say they took their fair share of lumps. As K. Dot states, “We been through some hard times in this game for real, niggas did bids, got seeds, some got left, but we stayed doing our thing. We had to at that point. It’s how we gotta feed our families.” Things were turbulent for the first 4 years, but in early 2002, things with Crhyme Fam took a turn for the better. First, the group was as intact and stable as it had ever been and the results slowly began to creep through. Second, musically, their sound was finally clicking with what the streets wanted to hear and they began to make some noise in their hood and see real opportunities. According to Lord Black, “When you got such intense competition in you own neighborhood like we did, it only helps you get better faster. I mean when you have niggas like Cormega, Mobb Deep, Lakey the Kid, Infamous (Mobb), Nature, Bars&Hooks, around you all day in the hood, you gotta stay on your’re A-game. When we first started getting our little props from those cats, things started looking up and we were able to seriously think about making a career out of this and getting our rhymes out there past the hood.”

One thing quickly led to another and Crhyme Fam was introduced to –
In Ya Ear Records, Producer (Ax Da Bull, by A&R Evil) at their studio, the former home of the legendary Power Play Studios. They later met with the C.E.O. of In Ya Ear Records. Rob Diaz, and hit it off quickly, they began recording songs together and furthered there business relationship. “We clicked and hit the studio immediately and that helped us really take it up a notch” states K. Dot. By the end of 2003 they were comfortable enough to Sign the dotted line and begin working on their debut In Ya Ear Records, Ep “The EP XL”

In the year 2004, Crhyme Fam is set to take it up yet another level musically and continue in the grand tradition of it’s neighborhood forefathers. Crhyme Fam’s goals can be best summed by Kashdro, “We just wanna rep the Bridge to the fullest and make good music. If we do that then we got a shot at making it in this music game cause we know the music gonna speak for itself and give us that opportunity to feed our families and build the community.” Their debut EP, “The EP XL” features street and radio bangers like “The realest” f/ prodigy, “Street Shit” Produced by “The Alchemist”, Gotta Man, Produced by “Phsyco Les” of the Beatnuts. That will rock both the party and boulevard. Packing rugged flows, insightful lyrics and subject matter, combined with a commanding stage presence; Crhyme Fam is a can’t-miss prospect just waiting to make a big impact on the fickle rap industry.
