Nova Cancao was the last recording Grupo Elo did as a band and is essentially a studio recording of what Grupo Elo did in concert live during their 1980 tour in Brasil. The recording itself was never intended to be an album but was, in fact, a practice tape for a work in progress. After the untimely death of Jayrinho, the band''s founder, and subsequent disbanding of the group, the recording was re-mastered and presented as an album. It was the single biggest selling Brasilian gospel album of any kind during it''s day.
