For four Philadelphia-based musicians, the Murderhouse in historic Germantown (site of a bloodcurdling double-homicide that occured in the early 90s) has become production facility, as well as home, to a truly original group of artists.
Andrew Walls, Angelo Delquadro, Daniel Kennedy and Ian Mayer are the last musicians in Philly that still believe in making pure, scalding, earth-shattering, face-peeling prog/metal/fusion-influenced rock music. The best way to describe their sound is to liken it to an alien spacecraft passing overhead. Born utterly out of the Philly "scene" yet invariably sticking out like sore thumbs, the band, originally formed during the last smouldering days of the 20th century, reformed in 2006 to begin cutting it’s teeth with relentless performances at local venues.
Originally the ''Murder House Trio,'' then ''Murder House Band'' and finally just ''Murderhouse,'' the group, in its past, has included multiple horn players and singers. These days, their rhythm section instrumentation stems from a willingness to let the music tell the story. Their music has plenty to say, even without words- whether borrowing from jazz and latin themes or from hard rock, every song takes the listener on a unique journey.
The absence of vocals has also made it possible for the music to avoid fitting into any one genre or niche, while maintaining exceptionally high levels of energy. With all the raw power of grunge, the experimentalism of psychedelic rock, and the sophistication of a Frank Zappa composition, their listeners tend to be as diverse as the music is.
Murderhouse is dedicated to the furtherance of musical enjoyment everywhere. Their mission is to make the world better, one note at a time. They really respect you as a human being, and they think you smell nice. (Except for you, back there, in the purple sweatpants.)
