Sleep Deprivation (in the spirit of Lo-fi) is the first album Gaslight District recorded soon after the band formed.
This album is an early pregnancy, conceived in the honeymoon stages of the band-member''s youthful courtship. It is a pre-ejaculated collaboration spewed out of several broken condoms previously infected with a diverse array of musical STD''s, and born prematurely, afterbirth and all, into Sleep Deprivation.
Throw a few musical-mutts together, give them stringed things and boxes to bang on, provide a pulpit for their bubble bursting perceptions, and see how beautiful cynicism can be.
And yet, you will find the isms contained within the lyrics of Deprivation to be filled with a genuine love and hope for humanity. Not to mention, these wake-up artist''s know how to have fun, and not take it all (or themselves), too seriously. They rant without condescension. Nor do they patronize or appease. Lollypop lyrics won''t be found in any of the rhymes either. Sociological musings and the complex emotions of the ostracized, love-starved platypus is more of what will be explored within these tunes.
Much like the many genres mutating through the tracks, there is an embrace of diversity and harmonious disagreement at play here. Magically spirited and uninhibitedly executed.
Gaslight does not let sarcasm keep them from exposing their soft underbellies either, as tracks like "Reaching" and "Song of Chance" will most definitely reach you if given the chance.
Sleep Deprivation is a good album and worth any listener''s time, especially those that can appreciate diversity without the spit & shine of theme driven commercial productions and cotton candy soul.
