MP3 Grandaddy Youth (The Singles Mix) - REGGAE: Reggae rock

A base of reggae with hints of jazz and pop.

4 MP3 Songs
REGGAE: Reggae rock, ROCK: Funk Rock

Details:
Grandaddy Youth is five guys, including a father and son, two old friends, two young friends, another friend who is old, but acts young, five good friends in all !

Grandaddy Youth was formed in January of 2001 when son asked father to join him and his band for a benefit performance in Ojai, California. Steve & Taylor Fulton, the aforementioned father and son, are Bass and Drums respectively (Steve also sings). John DeYoung (Guitar, Bass & Lead Vocals) and Steve played music around the area of Ventura, California for many years beginning in 1974, including several years with The Pleasure Dots, thus the “old” friends. Young friends Taylor & Eric Urbano (Lead & Rhythm Guitar) have known each other since they were little kids, and neighbors. Our hybrid member, Andrew Diaz Jr. (Percussion & comedy, old & young), worked with John for several years before joining Grandaddy Youth.

Early performances include the Surf Rodeo, actually performed on Pierpont Beach in Ventura, and a concert at Victoria Hall, opening for Jack Johnson in Santa Barbara, California. In addition, repeated performances have included Nicholby’s Night Club, the now non-existent Bubba’s Lounge, both in Ventura, and the SLO Brewing Co. in San Luis Obispo, California (really good beer!).

Just for the sake of information, the name of the band was created by the young people when Steve insisted that the boys make up a band name, and suggested they come up with something funny. Needless to say, Steve, who is not a granddaddy, did not find this amusing (at the time he was the only old guy in the band).

The cool thing about this collection of people, and songs, is the numerous influences that have affected all of us. When we are asked what style of music do we play, we are hard pressed to call it any kind of style at all, other than our own. We have all been lucky enough to appreciate so many different types of music that we can’t help but play them all

Song Lyrics:

BECAUSE OF YOU

You bring out the child in me
The call of the wild in me
Look what you’ve done to me
It’s time for the world to see

I get wrapped up in my world
And it’s easy for me to forget
You stand there by the wayside
There you stand and wait,
By the wayside

Because of you, there’s a fire in my soul
In my soul, because of you

Because of you, there’s a glimmer in my eye
In my eye, because of you

Because of you, there’s a beat within my heart
In my heart, because of you

You bring out the child in me
The call of the wild in me
Look what you’ve done to me
It’s time for the world to see
I remember that magic night
You were there just like a dream
You shook me on the inside
There you changed my life
On the inside, you changed my life

Because of you, there’s a fire in my soul
In my soul, because of you

Because of you, there’s a glimmer in my eye
In my eye, because of you

Because of you, there’s a beat within my heart
In my heart, because of you

Because Of You !

MR. CONTROL

Mr. Control, I don’t have to worry
Mr. Control, I’m in no hurry
Mr. Control, I like what I’m feeling
Mr. Control, I’m touching the ceiling

Mr. Control, Rockin’ the boat
Mr. Control, Skippin’ the rope
Mr. Control, I like what I’m feeling
Mr. Control, I’m touching the ceiling

THE COST

You wanna get something for free
Anything from A to Z
It’s gonna cost you in the end
It’s gonna cost you in the end

Take a shot in the dark
Make a pass, make your mark
It’s gonna cost you in the end
It’s gonna cost you in the end

GOIN’ TO THE TOP

I’m goin’ to the top, to the top of the hill
I’m goin’ to the top, to the top of the hill
I’m on my way, well, come along if you will

The trail is sometimes strewn with debris,
The path often steep, and the end you can’t see,
It tires the legs and the feet may ache,
And we may wonder why we came this way,
And then we reach the meadow with the lake shimmering blue,
In the shade of the tree, our hearts beating true,
Was it worth the climb, was it worth the pain,
Will we wonder how we could ever complain

So we’re goin’ to the top, to the top of the hill
Goin’ to the top, to the top of the hill
We’re on our way, well, come along if you will

When the mind races wild in panic and fear
The sun goin’ down and the night drawin’ near
And the cold settles in and I tremble and shake
And I wonder why I was dealt this fate
So I build a fire and begin to warm
The clouds start to break from the lingering storm
And then I smile, because I know
Only I decide where my mind will go

So I’m goin’ to the top, to the top of the hill
I’m goin’ to the top, to the top of the hill
I’m on my way, well, come along if you will
Come along if you will, come along if you will
You know I’m goin’ to the top of the hill
Where I can see more clearly
