Anyone who truly wants to write about themselves is... well, an interesting person (especially in the mirror). I hate it but have to do it from time to time. The crazy thing about being a musician, especially a solo artist is that you have to have a Mt. Rushmore sized ego to get anywhere. I''m not glad that I haven''t gotten further with my music career but I''m OK with the reason why. I got over my shyness in high school or soon after but I still haven''t gotten past trying not to stand out too much. On the other hand I love to get on stage with a classical or acoustic guitar and put on a show. I play with the audience I sing my heart out and love to play my own songs but this part annoys me.
That said, music is one of those precious little things that make life worth all the crap we go through. Like sharp cheddar, it''s a strange concoction made up of an unlikely combination of things but it gets to us. Give me an old funky, poppy Sly and the Family Stone B-Side or even that new John Mayer hit and I will sit and stare into the abyss as if nothing is going on around me. When I write a song it''s about the things that go on around me. On my forthcoming CD there''s a song called "A Couple in a Restaurant" which is an amalgam of different scenes I''ve seen in diners late at night.

I love the acoustic guitar because it forces you as a singer to be "on" with where you''re going with a song. Piano is big enough, and a band is certainly big enough to push you or even cover you when you weak out. With acoustic guitar there''s nowhere to hide. The flip side of that is when you really want to bring it there''s nothing to stop you. The sound of the guitar just paves the road.

There is very little music out there that I can''t find some redeemable quality about. It''s not to say that I don''t hear music that I think of as bad but if an artist is willing to put it on the line to show you what they are made of then give them their props. I could go on and on about a few bands that I''m influenced by or that I think you should listen to but I''ll just say this. Listen to something new once in a while. Try out a new artist or even an old dead artist that you''ve never heard of and see what they are/were about. It''s refreshing to know that you almost missed something good but didn''t. I hope you enjoy my tiny corner of the world of music and I thank you sincerely for your checking it out.
