BIO

Georgette Atsedes was born in Ithaca, NY on August 12, 1969. Unlike most babies, Georgette was born blind with congenital cataracts. Before she was three years old, she underwent seven operations on both eyes. Following this, the doctors gave up hope that she would ever be able to see. About one and a half months later, God began to work a miracle in Georgette''s life; she began to have vision for the first time. God has continued to heal Georgette''s eyes over the years; today she drives a car and wears the lightest prescription glasses she''s ever had.
God began to birth a seed of passion for worship in Georgette when she was only seven years old and attending a private Christian School in Freeville, New York. The first hour of every day was spent in singing praises to the Lord in this school. For several years, this hour was full of powerful, personal and spontaneous encounters with Jesus. Eventually, Georgette helped lead the worship, playing her guitar and singing. Phil Keaggy was a tremendous influence upon Georgette''s life at this time. He attended the church which was a part of the school, where he would often come to talk and play music for the students.
Georgette began composing music at age twelve, and continued to pour out her heart throughout highschool, singing and playing the guitar and piano. She was very involved in music, having been part of a Christian band called "Antioch", singing in choral events and participating in over ten musical productions.
Despite all this, highschool had been a traumatic, painful experience for Georgette. She suffered emotional damage from her peers, who verbally harassed her because her eyes looked different, (They often crossed and moved out of sync with one another). Others ostracized her because of her talent and her strong convictions about Jesus. She had also been sexually abused for seven years by someone outside of her family. This left her with shame and a sense of worthlessness. All of these factors led Georgette into withdrawal, depression and the inability to make eye contact with anyone. She felt as though she should apologize for her eyes and life.
After graduating from highschool in 1988, Georgette moved to Nashville, Tennessee in pursuit of a vocal performance degree at Belmont University. In her Sophomore year, it was discovered that she had developed vocal nodes, causing her to drop out of all vocal programs for almost two years. God used this experience to show Georgette that she had made an idol of her voice, putting all her identity in that talent instead of in Him. She had been worshiping the gift and not the Giver. During this time, she learned how to listen and truly worship God without singing a word. God revealed that He desired her WHOLE heart and that all she needed to do was to rest in Him. This began a long road to emotional healing. God began building her up with godly friends, who affirmed her for who she was in Him, instead of being impressed with her talent. She found that she no longer needed to apologize for her eyes. Now, she had the opportunity to share a wonderful testimony of the faithfulness and power of the living God, actively working through her life.
God restored Georgette''s voice and she changed her major to Music Education. She continued to write music during her college years, though she didn''t really take her music seriously. To her surprise, she was chosen to sing in the Music Business Song Writers Showcase. This was a tremendous encouragement to her and caused her to write and play music more. After college, Georgette began teaching music at the Tennessee School for the Blind. God destined her to bring His hope to a sometimes hopeless environment. Many of the children she works with have multiple disabilities and many have been abused. It is interesting how God works everything according to His purpose!
Today, Georgette is active in leading worship in various church groups and has begun a music ministry with a group called "Thirst", which plays regularly at coffee houses, churches, outreaches, camps and restaurants. Georgette is a BMI songwriter and is also involved as a session singer and soloist, sharing the songs the Lord has given her.

A Quote From Georgette:

"The passion of my heart is to allow the Holy Spirit to move through my life so as to draw others into that intimate place with God where they may know the vastness of His Love in a deeper way in their lives. I desire to see others healed, delivered and set free by the power of this Love, set to music. To God be the Glory, forever!"
