Not a band or the name of some makeup-wearing alter ego with a fictional past, gawker slowdown is Minneapolis songwriter Eric Kalenze. A member of late Minneapolis power-poppers Third Wheel, Kalenze threw himself back into the music scene under a band name so he wouldn''t have to clog announcement calendars with yet another faceless solo artist name.
Though Third Wheel had been described as "creat[ing] a powerhouse sound that drives pop to its breaking point" (Neal Mayerle, Toast magazine, May 1999), gawker slowdown offers a quieter, more controlled folk rock. Rock and folk textures mesh with a diverse range of influences and thoughtful lyrics to form songs that are at once familiar and fresh.
