His ability to perform as one of the youngest beat boxer in talent show history in Harlem. Troy became very popular in his neighborhood and in school where he reared. At the age of 12, he began taking his older cousin’s rap verses and kicking them at school until he realized that he possessed his own creative ability to create songs that would sound better, with better hooks, and stories to tell. His own peers (rapper who recognized him) are looking at him as a folk hero of rap stories
Real recognizing real, in1995, Troy was introduced to another local hip hop regal, named K. V., aka Kev Valentin, founding member of the hip hop group the Marx Men. Although Troy was in pursuit of greatness he needed more experience which he obtained by performing as an opening act for the Marx Men. By the summer of 1995, Troy was invited to professionally record on a track entitled “Big Willie Dreams” with the Marx Men, his vocal and lyrics where so impressive, K. V., knighted him as the Last Marx Men.
Troy visions himself in 2 years top to be in a class by himself, at the mountain top. Years of struggle and nonpaying show, and most damaging lack of label responses, did not keep him from pursuing his rightful place in rap history.
Troy impeccable resume includes performances with ‘ the Late Big “L”, Mos Def, Common, the Roots, and founding legends Kool Herc (of the Herculords), and M. C. Grand Master Caz (of the Fantastic 5). Troy was also featured on an album with M. O. P., (Brooklyn), (Bronx Legend) King Sun, Ice T, Cypress Hill, and in late 2004, hooked with a local producer /manager Ken “ Mustaafa” Howell, of NEB Productions, who later in 2005 joined in label venture with Tella Walton to form the label Dirty Beatz/ North East Bronx (DB/NEB). Under Ken Mustaafa, Troy was able to put his lyrical art form to his own music production furthering his ability as an artist/producer with his own beats.
It is a known fact that Troy Martin has matured in the business of understanding what it takes to be a hip hop star/legend with an ability to sell he version of the art form. “Troy Martin is a diamond in the rough world of hip hop.
