Details:
Jason Spillman and Michael Naumann started collaborating musically in 1990, introduced to one another by fellow madman and friend Todd Edward Bak (vocals, harmonica, and fantastic lyrics). They formed the acoustic, melodic, and at times frenzied Wenonga Daze. This short-lived project was limited to a handful of coffee house shows and college parties, but produced half a dozen memorable songs, some of which were rearranged and recorded by World Echo on their debut CD “Roads and Reasons”.

This brief band split up to pursue other ventures and there was a lull of a year or so before Jason contacted Mike to come play guitar for a band he had put together called “Spindrift”. Several months of practice and many member changes later, this project renamed themselves My Blind Alley and started to perform in Denver in 1992, with all the songs being written by either Jason or Mike, or in many cases by both together. While originally having a vocal front man, after several months and several member changes My Blind Alley switched things around and the vocal duties fell to Mike and Jason. These changes lead to a honing of their vocal harmonies, and to an almost telepathic method of singing and improvising together. My Blind Alley was together for eight years and released one full length CD “Synaesthesia” and played hundreds of shows in Colorado and surrounding states, garnering significant airplay along the way, before parting ways in 2000. After eight years of playing together the band lost their ability to create music effectively as a group and they decided to close shop and try new projects on their own.

World Echo was formed in January 2002 when Mike and Jason got together to jam, after a break from playing together that lasted over two years. They quickly remembered just how much they enjoyed working and writing songs together and decided to record some songs; start a fresh new project and focus on writing and recording, instead of on shows and band members and soap operas and bar owners and all of the other distractions that go along with being in a group. They recorded their first CD “Roads and Reasons” between January and June of 2002, all in the comfort/discomfort of their studio “The Ice Box”, situated in a converted workshop in Jason’s back yard. The CD was a combination of some old My Blind Alley songs that had either never been recorded or never been recorded well, and some entirely new songs that either Mike or Jason had written in the interim. They immediately started working on songs for their second CD entitled “Spark” while putting together the artwork and engineering the tunes for R&R. R&R was released in the fall of 2002 and World Echo quickly sold most of the copies.

“Spark”, released in the summer of 2003, was the second full length recording by World Echo. This CD has a total of 12 songs and found World Echo trying on new musical styles and experimenting freely with the instruments at hand. The acquisition of some new gear and recording devices helped to shape the sound of this CD; with the beauty of E-Bow (and the resonance of an electric vacuum cleaner in one case) World Echo created some unique sound textures that continued to highlight their vocal arrangements and harmonies. The songs on this CD were recorded between July and December 2002, again in the comfort/discomfort of their little studio “The Sweat Box”. As with “Roads and Reasons”, all instruments were played by either Mike or Jason, and while this was a lengthy process it allowed both of them to explore new territory and to come up with some unique new tracks.

In 2004 World Echo was joined by their old drummer friend from My Blind Alley David “Bonis” Hanlen, who sat in on some live shows and eventually joined up for a brief stint in the band. While Bonis was with them they recorded their most professional recording to date, “Green Grass and Cloudy Days”. Recorded over the space of about six months, this recording featured live drums and a much fuller sound than the previous two releases. A version of the song “One Quick Orbit” featured on the CD was also chosen for inclusion on a compilation CD released by Heyday Records, and with this CD World Echo garnered significant exposure on the internet. Bonis left the band for good shortly after the release of “Green Grass and Cloudy Days” and it was back to just Jason and Mike. They continued to record songs and play the occasional acoustic concert throughout 2005 and into 2006, when they moved their studio over to Mike’s house.

In July of 2006 they decided that it was time to put a full group back together. Jason placed an ad on a musician’s referral web site and beat all odds by finding the perfect drummer on the first try; Brian Rempel. Brian came over to the studio and after one song all knew that the chemistry was right. They started working on a set and played their debut show on September 9th 2006 to a full house. They released their fourth CD in November of 2006, entitled “Waves Invisible” and have since played a handful of shows and are currently at work on their next studio release. They also have their song “That’s How It Happens” on the upcoming Heyday Records compilation CD project that was released in September 2007.

World Echo is currently in the final stages of releasing the next recording, an ambitious, sprawling double CD entitled "Two Miles From the River" that is scheduled for release in April 2008.
