Singer/songwriter music that blends acoustic/alternative with a heavier edge.

10 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Acoustic, ROCK: Roots Rock

Details:
George Hughes is a Singer - Songwriter in an Acoustic/Alternative vein. He started playing guitar and singing at the age of seven. His musical upbringing was staged by his mother (a singer out of Texas) who introduced him to Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, John Coltrane , Nat King Cole and of course the Beatles. Hughes has played venues with many national acts such as Ben Harper, Vonda Shepherd, Julia Fordham, The Fixx and Live. His songwriting quality shows more in the melody and lyrics rather than a desire to imitate what is presently popular in the music media. His voice ranges from gritty anguish to a smooth, more soulful sound, sometimes within the confines of one song. Lyrically, if one is really listening, they can hear a fountain of experiences such as pleasure, pain, and musicianship. One can also get a sense of his cynical satire of the human race.

A Seattle, Washington transplant, Hughes sang with bands such as Shi Andi, Place, Fallen Hero and most recently in Arizona, Flipskirt. Following the release of his new solo effort "If it''s alright with you..."; with guest musicians David Ellefson (Bass) of Megadeth/F5, David Small (Drums) of F5 and Fate Taylor (Guitar) of Ashes of Eden, he has returned to the stage in his home state of Arizona. He is now appearing on a Shut Eye Records compilation called Buzzlighter #7 that is being promoted and featured on college radio stations across the country.
