GILES are giving us their fresh take on the blues. Cool, classic, funky, kicking. Great songs and great playing.

10 MP3 Songs
BLUES: Electric Blues, BLUES: Guitar Blues

Details:
This is the second CD by GILES, released on the 1st of February 2004. It contains 8 wonderful original songs and 2 striking re-works of old masterpieces.

GILES is the project of Dutch multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Mark Koehorst. He is known for his excellent guitar and vocal work and on this album, he also shows his skills on bass, keyboards and drums.

The songs

She Broke My Heart - A classic song with a powerful solo. Mark shows his ability to "write them like they used to".

Suzie Q - The first re-work. A very punchy version of a classic Dale Hawkins''s song that has been covered by so many people. Mark shines on wah guitar.

Crazy - How funky do you want your blues? Mark hits the fretless bass and everything takes off! Watch out for the solo section in the middle...

Brown Instrumental - Smokey slide guitar that will stick in your head. Lovely atmosphere with some delicate and very classy piano.

In My Soul - How rocky do you want your blues? Mark uses his Line 6 delay to full effect when he plays against himself. A great live favourite that brings the house down.

Blood From A Stone - Another classic song that firmly establishes Mark among the best songwriters. Wonderful fretless bass-lines underpin effortless vocals and his trade mark wah guitar.

Rollin'' & Tumblin'' - A live recording at one of the many gigs in 2003, with Philip Escott on drums and Bobby Kewley on bass. The band effortlessly bends this classic Muddy Waters song every which way it will go. Blues is alive and kicking!

Tease You - A clever song in which Mark finds his pride wrapped around the finger of a model in a magazine. A sleazy, irresistible groove, with lovely harmonies from Jane Koehorst.

You Don''t Know - Mark opens his heart in a song that was recorded as quickly as it was written. Hypnotic drums over a guitar loop sample created on the Line 6, with haunting wah guitar. "When the mood takes you..."

Coming Home - The second live recording on this album, with Mark ''Crash'' Wainwright on bass and Jay Hoy on drums. A straight original 12 bar blues at the end of a long night at a local blues club.
