Biography
Ed Wordz Raised in Sacramento, CA

Damond Edwards was born to do something significant and powerful with his life. Damond, whose personality is positively infectious, is a cypher genius, receiving his nickname, Ed Wordz from just that. As an emcee, there can’t be just one A.K.A. so D-Money was invented from his first name and last initial. Throw in Ed Wordz educational experience; gathering a B.A. in Organizational Communications and a minor in Marketing, it is no wonder Ed Wordz is well on his way to success as a writer, performer and producer in the hip-hop industry. He has appeared in television commercials, played basketball internationally and toured the world-over with the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters. Generally difficult to move from sports into music, Ed Wordz hopes that potential fans respect him as the artist he has always been. Ed Wordz was playing basketball full time and then retired to focus on his music and teach kids how to play ball. Now he focuses entirely on his music, his passion. Ed Wordz wants to put more time into working on subtle aspects of his album offering a better ear to his sound. Ed Wordz says he wants “more beefy tracks, more content, more soul [and] more good music.” “My goals are to produce classic slapping-ass music that people can relate to. I’ve come to put my mark on it. Dr. King said to dream and then to put faith and action towards that vision, in order to achieve anything - so that it is my inspiration and motivation,” says Ed Wordz, whose goals change as he grows with understanding of the music industry. Ed Wordz has grown accustomed to being on stage, even from an early age; this performer sang in his church choir and transitioned into hip-hop as a teenager. It definitely helped that Ed Wordz already was writing poetry since he came from a family who embraced writing and spirituality. “I could out-think other cats who were rhyming. I could come up with some clever raps and have a whole cypher of rappers oohin’ and ahhin’. I knew I had something,” says Ed Wordz. Ed Wordz has worked with a wide variety of local artists such as Luni Coleone, Marvaless and Doey Rock as well as heavyweight hip-hop figures such as The Roots, Alkoholiks and KRS-One. Recently, Ed Wordz has built local momentum within his fan base, producing his album, “The Power of Wordz,” featuring a host of soon-to-be hip-hop classics, produced by LA, JC and Bonez. Ed Wordz collaborations are pretty intense working closely with a variety of Sacramento underground hip-hop artists such as Bueno, Sly, Duecie Nickels, Butcher and Young Tweez to name a few. “In the near future I plan to begin releasing a few of these artists’ first solo projects, so that is exciting too,” says Ed Wordz. All in all, with influences such as 2 Pac, Ice Cube, Rakim, Nas, Kanye West and Mos Def Ed Wordz has produced a well-rounded album. Ed Wordz lives for music, hip-hop just happened to be the ‘new’ category of music when he was younger and he embraced it such as many other hip-hop heads in the culture. “Hip-hop is the soul of the people. The old ‘regime’ of hip-hop no longer rules but the voice of the people through their music is very much alive. I am hip-hop,” proclaims Ed Wordz.
