Her expressive powerful voice comes with a range that resides at both ends of the vocal spectrum, and is influenced by many soulful artists. "Besides my mother, whom has been a major attribute to my voice, other lessons came from Etta James, Patsy Cline, Kristen Hersh (Throwing Muses), and of course Madonna; teaching me a lot more than vocals." With all that Gina''s voice reminds us of Melissa Etheridge, Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders), Pat Benatar, and Sarah McLachlan.
Growing up with love and hardships, Gina learned from an early age how passion and pain were all one in the same, beginning with her vocally talented mother who fell ill while Gina was a young child. "Watching my mother struggle with physical discomfort and her love for music became a double-edged sword for me." No matter what the day brought, her mother imbedded the teachings of a passionate soulful song to her daughter. "Motown, Blues, and Doo-Wop were major sounds through out our home; from Tina Turner to Carole King my mother was adamant that I learn the truthful art of singing and songwriting. She taught me that songs are magical, full of beauty and sadness bringing you joy and tears all at the same time, as she described music, in my eyes she described herself."
Gina discovered her singing and songwriting abilities early in life. "I would sit in my room for hours jotting down my favorite artist''s lyrics, until one day I heard my own melodies and lyrics swimming in my head." Taking her experiences throughout her life Gina started crafting her emotions into song. "I write true to my life, but in a way that everyone will hopefully relate to."
While Motown, R&B, and Popular Dance music molded her musical tastes. Gina''s true art form was found when she first heard PJ Harvey. "One night (at a party) a friend put on PJ''s second album Rid of Me. Everything stopped, I was blown away and listened intently to every guitar chord, and vocal stretch." The next day Gina bought the album, her first guitar, and the sexy edged rock side of her songwriting. "I wanted to create songs that would speak words of melodic passion, driving guitars with sexy drumbeats you could dance to." A later finding would be Sheryl Crow. "Sheryl like Carole King has a God-given talent for formulating a song to perfection."
The passion with in Gina moves both her and her debut album For the Love of C... (a guessing title unrelated to her last name). Crafting songs that articulate romanticism, eroticism, and self-forgiveness For the Love of C... is a novella of life, and love created for the public from with in Gina. From the sexually charged starting track "Another Way" to the sorrowful "You to Hold" you experience the extreme halves in her lyrics and sound. Other songs like the albums first single "Feel the Same" show off Gina''s melodic guitar style while being complimented by her sweet angelic voice.
