Hailing from the streets of the southeast side of Saginaw Michigan, a moderately sized auto industry city, is the dynamic duo of Ken-Boy and Al-Gee who form the group Young Jewels. Formerly known as N.O.T.P. in the early 90’s, the duo, with help from former fellow N.O.T.P. rapsters Stan J. and Footy G., set the standards by which other Midwest rappers would follow for years to come. As N.O.T.P. they managed to obtain a large following as well as landing a record deal with Waldoxy/Malaco records in 1994.
With the savvy of hip-hop veterans the pair were on the rise within the N.O.T.P. vehicle with clever street-wise lyrics, catchy hooks and the infectious beats of producer Larry D. . They performed and rubbed elbows with such artists as Scarface, Outkast, 69 Boyz, Spice 1, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Big Mike, MoKenStef, Black Girls and Night-N-Day respectively.
Hooking up again in 1999 the duo reunited with producer Larry D. at Stelar Productions to take their previous success to the next level. Relying on knowledge gained from previous mistakes and the financial backing of executive producer John Parham, as well as venturing into the executive’s chair themselves, the duo are back. They have a new name, new sound and a new attitude. The Young Jewels are rising from the ashes like the mythical Phoenix to reclaim their place in the hip-hop world.
From the smooth flow of Ken-Boy’s wisdom-filled lyrics that possess the ability to reach out and take you there on the track “So Much Pain” to the natural Tupac-esque sound of Al-Gee, who keeps you on the edge of your seat with the love shown to fallen family and partners on the track “Recognize” the pair prove they are back and they mean business. Carefully crafted lyrics and a sound that blends west coast and dirty south hip-hop styles, they intend to take hip-hop to an new level and ride to the top.
Hitting with the music world from a perspective of giving every audience a little something to bounce to is the plan and is well demonstrated on the 17 track CD entitled “From All Angles”. Hip-hop has two new faces and they’re called Young Jewels. The new millennium is the Young Jewels’ time to shine.
