Artie was born in Louisville, KY and accepted Christ at the age of nine. He was reared by a family comprised of brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts and the community of Griffytown. Thanks to his Mother (Martha Morris), his Bible teacher (Americus Dow) and his aunt (Ruth Clark), he had studied and read an edition of the King James Bible by the age of eleven and appeared to be destined for the pulpit. However, after serving in the military, he decided to forego the ministry and went on to receive a Doctorate of Juris Prudence.
He never forgot the years of encouragement and love he received from the aforementioned love ones, along with Theresa Morris Goggins, Catherine Parker, James Parker, Irene Morris, Louise Morris, Herbert Morris, Robert Morris, Mildred Morris, Lavenia Fresh, Lynn Morris, Helen Morris, Cleoutus Morris, Clarence Morris, Mattie Gill, Parker, Osa Taylor and Eddie Clark. It was their prayers, love and encouragement that moved him to reflect on how good the Lord had been to him and inspired him to compose “Don''t Take Your Hands Off Me”.
Artie’s favorite gospel artist is https://www.tradebit.comessa Bell Armstrong. The way she takes a a song to another level reminds him of his Aunt Catherine. As a young boy he loved to sit at his aunt’s kitchen table and listen to her sang along with tunes by her favorite Jazz vocalist, Nancy https://www.tradebit.com would hit notes that Nancy wasn’t attempting. To this day, he says his aunt Cat is his favorite female Jazz singer and his brother,George, is his favorite musician.
Although he grew up listening to Country, Blues, R&B and Gospel, it wasn''t until he heard the album “What''s Going On,” that the desire to one day compose lyrics was forever planted in his mental garden. Then one day, a friend (Thai) listened to his first composition , “I’m Down With Your Loving.” She didn’t laugh,but offered to help him and did the vocals and the track. “ There’s nothing like conceiving and producing a song and then hearing strangers say, that’s bad.”
Although Artie spends a lot of time composing lyrics, he was able to find time to write a book based on his life, titled, “Stay In Your Lane.”
He often reflects on his late brother (James Morris Jr.), his late aunts (Theresa Morris Goggins and Ruth Clark )his late mother ( Martha Ann Morris) and his children, India and Brandon and the impact that they have had on his life.
