People of Promise derives its title from a song Dave wrote in 1985 ''An army of Ordinary People''... ''the children of promise... shall flow together as one''.

This theme of ''togetherness'' runs throughout the album from its very opening. Slide guitar and Piano chords pave the way for a rising Bob Dylan style acoustic rhythm as Dave sings the opening lines ''We have Gathered here...'', depicting the setting of a communion table or home group setting, with all eyes fixed on Jesus. The following track takes us into skiffle, with deep, baritone-bass, negro spiritual backing vocals, underpinned by high strung guitar, rhythmic double bass, shuffling drum sticks and Daves voice repeating over and over, ''Cause me to Walk in His Ways!'' as the music becomes more and more energetic.

Dave has recorded a completely new version of the song ''An Army of Ordinary People''.. A call for the church to join together and seek God''s Kingdom on this earth. The final song, ''Make my Heart Blaze'', is the sound of a church reaching outwards to the world. Played out with atmospheric slide guitar, xylophone and beating drums Dave sings, ''I''ll stand with the nameless, the plight of the poor...make my heart blaze with the love of Jesus.''
