Details:
THE SUN LEE SUNBEAM is a Boston rock trio fronted by Jessica Sun Lee with Mary Flatley on bass, Eric Olson on drums, and the occasional guest guitarist Eric Fahey.

There’s a moment in everyone’s life when it pivots from existence and observation to full on consciousness. For Jessica, that moment was at the ripe age of three, when a powerful sunbeam shot through her window and woke her on contact. She sat up, gazing into that blinding pool of light and finally knew what it felt like to really be alive, feeling, believing, aware of herself and the life all around her. Anything was possible. But, as time can twist to make you bitter and burnt, she lost that feeling for a couple of decades. Until one morning when it broke into her apartment window and found her once again. She picked up the guitar and started writing.

As one of the many abandoned babies in South Korea, she was found and given the name Sun Lee. Her American family named her Jessica. She changed her name to Jessica Sun Lee, uniting her past and present to finally live her truth.

What originated as a therapeutic outlet for Lee started to take shape when she collaborated with Alice Austin and Jeff Moxley (The Lavas, Zola Turn, Ms. Pigeon) in the summer of 2005. They evolved and tracked a few songs, but eventually transitioned into mutual supporters and inspiration.

Late 2006, Lee hooked up with ex-roommate/veteran bassist Cindy Staton (Steel Poniez, Math). Months later, Staton was contacted by another ex-roommate/drummer, Mary Flatley (Flavorich, Rom & The Saps). Within six months, the trio self-tracked a three song demo and played five local shows in reputable venues such as TT the Bear’s, Harpers Ferry, The Abbey, and PA’s Lounge.

When Staton left the band in the Fall of 2007 to further pursue her education, Flatley--a classically trained jazz bassist--transitioned off the drums and onto the bass. After several auditions, they found Eric Olson (The Hours, Three Speed Amplifier, Grain). They knew instantly that he was the one.

The new trio is already playing and booking packed local gigs at great venues--including a sold out show at Great Scott''s "The Pill". Their debut album LOOK FOR THE LIGHT became available in May 2008, but they have enough material to record a trilogy if it were possible (or wise).

Flatley is known for playing a five string jazz bass with four strings--and damn well, at that. Olson is loved for his creative fills and charging beats. Lee has been remarked for sliding between a ferocious growl and a purr, bending the line between innocence and aggression.
